Hey all.. I recently reinstalled DD on my new rig with the latest patch of course..

I cannot get the game to run in Direct3d mode.. It simply gives me a black screen on the test, and trying to actually run the game hard crashes with a black screen.. COLD reboot required..

I have an older system.. p43.0 with an agp 3850 ATI card..

Any ideas or tricks?

What's wrong with running it in DirectDraw anyway? :)

I can't find much on what P43.0 is, but in combination with your Radeon it doesn't seem all that old to me. Anyway if it's a new rig, did you remember to install DirectX?

Oh yes, latest version of DX installed.. DX9.0 June 08 Edition..

I figure direct 3d would provide even better spell and lighting effects..

I don't think the difference will be mind-boggling. I may be completely wrong here, but is it possible that your graphic card isn't compatible with D3D?

No, it's compatible.. It's an ATI 3850..

Anyone else run in d3d? and if so, what card.. ect..

I play it in D3D. First with a Gforce 440, now with a Gforce 6200.

Used to run it on an All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500, and it ran with D3D but crashed fairly often. Runs flawlessly on GEforce 8500 now. I think the game has some issues with ATI cards. You might check the official forums at larian.com. Tech support is pretty solid there.
