XBox 360, PS3 or Wii?
XBox 360, PS3 or Wii?
I have finally decided that I'm going to buy console for gaming purpose. THe problem is, I have a hard time in deciding which one I should buy. So, I want to hear your opinions. Basically, as name of the thread suggest, I have narrowed my selection to Wii, XBox 360 and PS3.
So, I'm asking opinions basing the selection of games, price of games and console/equipments and so on. Oh, and if you are going to give your opinion, please tell me why you think so, such as "XBox RULZ" or similiar comments won't be helpful without any background details.

I have this same question on my mind a few years ago.
In the end I decided to buy PS3. Reason:
1.The media of it's game disc is Blu-ray, which means it can store more
contents than that of 360 and Wii
2.Home feature (but this one is not complete - yet)
3.Lots of my favorite games are being made exclusive for PS3
But the price of it's games are more expensive compared to the other two

There is nothing you can't do, at least if you have enough patience to keep trying.

What I would suggest is checking out the games available for all platforms vs the types of games you most enjoy playing...
Although both my son and I are mostly PC gamers, we do have a Wii in the house and really enjoy it because the controls are a lot of fun. I just wish that more had been released for the Wii.

Yeah, that's the drawback of Wii. Good, cheap games with innovative control system, but too few in numbers.dragon wench wrote:What I would suggest is checking out the games available for all platforms vs the types of games you most enjoy playing...

In case of XBox vs. PS3, both basically contain the games I'm most interested in. So it goes to price/other features categorywhen comparing these two.
Anyone has any experience from multiplayer capabilities of PS3 and XBox? And is it cheap?

Thanks for the hints everybody.
I finally decided to buy XBox 360, as it has same games as PS3 which I'm most interested, and so far I have noticed that there is actually even more games in XBox. Also, the price of console and games are cheaper.
So, my next question, for those who own XBox, is that what additional equipment I should get at the same time? I admit, in case of consoles I'm kinda newbie as I haven't own any consoles since my old trusty NES console
Oh, and as a side note, I already preordered Fallout 3.

well, i think you will enjoy it. i've had mine since 2006 with no problems. i believe that all the problems stem from heat issues. i have mine in the horizontal position near the a/c vent, so nothing has happened yet (knock on wood). i believe that the prices will come down again for this holiday as Xbox is in the red.
blue-ray drive will eventually come the the 360. i read some article about how the 360's can use both, but M$ only sells the HD drive.
i also believe that i read something about resident evil being ported to the 360 in late 2009. exclusives are not "exclusive anymore". after a set amount of time they are sent to the other consoles.
plus, wii's are almost impossible to find.

98 percent of my friends have the XBox 360 i have the XBox 360 elite. so we play each other a lot on Xbox live and that is the best reason to get this console. I have two friends with the Wii granted its fun but you have to be there at their pad to play it and when I did play I still like my 360 game selection better. go with what you want but that is my two cents.
For those who hasn't already gathered it from other discussions, I ended up buying XBox 360. Games are a bit cheaper here, and the achievement system gives a bit spice to gaiming.
Oh, and one major reason why buy XBox was that I bought it a special discount, 220€ for the console, including all the necessary cables, two wireless controller, 60GB hd, microphone-headset and two games in a price of one

I have a Xobox 360 and it's fantastic. It's got a great range of games, the controllers are fantastic, and it's quite a fair price.
The PS3 is way too expensive, although it can play Bluray discs which is good.
The Wii is innovative because of the way it's controlled, but the range of games is very small and limited to certain games.
So Xbox 360 wins

360 = LOT more games, getting close to maxed out performance, & good(though lessening) chance of problems.
ps3 = few games, top performance still yet to be seen, good reliability.
though i own a ps3 & really like it, i would probabably go with the 360(try as hard as you can to make sure you get one of the newest models) & take another look at the ps3 in 4-6 months.

While I understand that the decision has already been made, I couldn't help but pop in and give my opinion.
I originally was very much into the Playstation, besides my PC. I got the PS2 shortly after my PSone died and continued to be fairly 'loyal' to Sony. They had an excellent game library, some great hardware specs and I couldn't say no to a DVD player being around the house.
With the current gen though, the 360 is everything the PS2 was that really mattered for buying a console these days. It has the game library, and even if the PS3 has mammoth specs the 360 has nothing which would be considered bad outside of consistent hardware problems. It has an excellent online component and is more oriented towards the action and Western RPG demographic.
The Ps3 is much more expensive, although it does come with a Blu-Ray player, it's only an amount of time before I can purchase a PC which can do it far better anyways. Most of it's cost issues came from the massive amounts of memory it was trying to push, which was not helped by the fact that it wasn't as backwards compatible as they thought it would be. While the Sony console continues to be diverse it does not have the Western RPGs I prefer, and also tends to cost a lot for a game console with a low game exclusive library. It's fine for super power gamers who need a mighty fine machine, or who might be into racing (which really is Sony's domain for gaming at the moment) but not so good for casual gamers, or folks who want to really get the super popular action titles which have been coming out right away, like Gears of War 2 or Dead or Alive.
The Wii is the fun console with a load of family games or games for kids who haven't yet stopped holding mommy's hand in public, although it's got a few older games and some nice additions like WiiFit which are good to see. It's the best for casual gaming and is worth the purchase price once it comes down a bit purely to have a chance to get the next generation of Super Smash Brothers games.
Anyways, my thoughts.

a lot of games that in the past were sony exclusives have started opening up to microsoft now, TEKKEN 6, for example.
if you look at the 360 exclusives, the list is far longer (and IMO better) than the sony list. 360 has Fable 2, Saints Row 2, Too Human, Project Gotham, Forza Motorsport, the list goes on.
on the other hand, the only exclusives i can think of on Sony's side are Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid.

I think exclusivity is a bit of a dying breed at the moment. Most things that are coming to the 360 are likely going to hit the PC and many are even making the transition over to the PS3 after the 360 release. The only platform which I can see maintaining some exclusivity if the Wii, and that's because controller design is different enough to make porting fairly difficult.
