Harm is very powerfull. Hell, have it in NWN and you can win all the battles. However, undead heal when you use harm on them, so that's the downside, and it's in AD&D a touch spell.

In 'Old School' AD&D it was also considered an evil spell, use of which would lead to expulsion and loss of divine favour from 'good' gods. It was also a clerical spell not available to Druids, so Jaheira shouldn't have it.

Either late 2nd edition AD&D completely changed things around, or the devs of BG2 screwed up on implementation again.

No monster except demiliches, bonegolems, magicgolems and rakshasa(ruhk) are immune to harm, these few exceptions have spell level immunity up to lvl 6 and higher and harm is counted as a lvl 6 spell thus cant get trough(and magicgolems are immune to magical weapons also). Though if a creature has spell turning, spell deflection, spell trap or protection from magical weapons on the effect cant get trough, also magic resistance can block harm.
