So what will you be buying, and playing?

Well maybe I'll look into Civ 3, but acording to stores in Denmark, it won't be out until around 20.11 here in DK.

But otherwise, I'm still holding out for NwN :D

Scrub that, just finished Level 3, i will give you a quick example:

First you have to get on shore, avert a few mines in the sea, make sure you get out of your boat before getting to shore, then swim to the nearest steps out of the water. Next you enter the building holding the seductress, knock a few guys out along the way, she joins your party, then you go to another building talk to a geezer, he tells you to turn off the electric fence, in the same building you obtained the seductress, so she goes and switches that off, i take my thief to the roof avoid the three guards, climb along the electric wires to the other side of the map, then i take the seductress over to the soldiers mess - picking up some sleeping pills along the way. I place those sleeping pills in some wine, they drink, they sleep (naturally ;) ) i get the theif to take the keys to the commanders office so i can obtain the Enigma device.

Anyway after doing the next few bits avoiding all the men, i then have to walk past another 4 Germans turn on a radio, go back hide under a bed with a thief and also take the seductress out to the waiting boat.

And that is it, there is absolutely no learning curve on this game, and you don't even want to see the objectives for the fourth level, it is absolutely terrifiying in it's complexity, it is also excellent :)

Well worth buying if you want to tax your mind ;)

Cultural zones, I think they're called, but it's the same thing, in any case. They've also put in a few new options under politics and economics. I'm really looking forward to it.

You might like Patrician II, @Dottie. Damn fine merchant game.

Civ 3 - After Civ 2 and all the promised extra features it should be a great game.

Civ III gets my vote. Ah, the many hours I spent building my Navy, stockpiling cruise missiles and planning parachute attacks. ::sigh::

There's a rather groovy looking new Waterloo game, a Star Wars Force Commander clone and something to do with Centurions that looks not half bad. Medal of Honor hits the PC losing its naff PS graphics/gameplay and becoming an interactive Saving Private Ryan. Christmas is looking good. Pity I only get socks and underpants these days  :D

Civ 3 is being delivered to me as I write this.

I just tried the Wizardry 8 demo for a whole 10 minutes - it seemed to me like the game was a confusing version of Might and Magic 6. The combat system was identical to MM6 yet I still couldn't figure it out.

Really? I'm sorry to hear this. Did you enjoy their previous games?

I've gotten Patrician II, and I must admit, I was extremely surprised, positively so. I expected nothing more than a fairly linear campaign with a few trading options. Instead, the game is very non-linear, amazingly detailed, and visually great. Here's a link to some screenshots in a preview somebody's put up: http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/screenindex/0,11104,529422,00.html

Sure, there are two campaigns included, but you can just play an openended campaign (with several levels of difficulty), and try to work your way up the ladder of success. Great economic model, strongly influenced by supply, demand, and local manufacture/harvesting of resources. Every building in a town (and there are dozens of types) actually does something when you click on it; frequently many different options are offered. And once you become a fat merchant, you can decide to run for mayor--which gives you a ton of new responsibilities. Or maybe you'd rather take a piratical role; contact a series of burglars and pirates to undermine the opposition regularly, and they'll start contacting you to see if you want to take on work for them.

Like I said, pretty damn impressive. :)
