3 vs 4 proficiency points

Hello everyone,

Are there any actual benefits for having more than three stars in a certain weapon proficiency ?

My fighter just hit level six and I'd like to know if there's a point in putting a fourth star in large swords or not.

Thanks in advance,

Carnifex

You always get extra's for extra points. You can see that in the right window when you do your level up. IF you scroll that window down, you'll see mastery and grand mastery with the benifits they give. Personnaly, I try to complete a proffeciency till the fullest, with the extra attacks and all.

The reason I'm asking, is because I couldn't see any improvements to number of attacks or THAC0 when grabbing a fourth star.

The fourth star grants additional +1 to damage compared to the third.

Thank you. Not exactly a huge leap forward...

Well, you have to ask: What benefits your character the most? +1 to damage or +nothing?

Or possibly, using the proficiency point for something more useful, say a third point in bows. The benefits gained between the second and the third star seem alot bigger than between the third and fourth.

Perhaps. But as your first comment pointed out:

No mention about using any other weapons than large swords. That´s a recent development. If you planned on using another weapon, perhaps it pays off. Which of those two ewapons are you planning on using the most?

Here's a simple guide to Weapon Specialisation:

1. Unmodded BGTutu/BG2. Not worth it.
2. You play normal BG or have installed True Grand Mastery. Lots of Fighter levels are actually useful.

I've listed the benefits here. What it comes down to is that in BGTutu or BG2 they nerfed WS. Now the 3 stars beyond ++ give you +1 to hit, -1 speed factor and finally +1 damage. It used to give +1 to hit and +1 attack at five stars. BG2 Fixpack can fix this.

Disclaimer: I'm not a power gamer, just a realist. Tiny bonuses do not compare to Mirror Images and Stoneskins. ;)

You're right. I was perhaps somewhat unclear, for that I apologize. In any case, I think I've come to a conclusion as to where I'll put this particular proficiency point now.

Thanks for the input guys!

What do you know... a namesake! :D

Sometimes I just have a character go up extra stars for role-playing reasons. IF the person is supposed to be a grandmaster, then he needs the five stars regardless of whether it does him any good.
