I need a thief. Anomen or Mazzy?

Here is the point.
My party is actually:
Me (Bard)
Keldorn
Anomen
Valygar
Mazzy
Kelsey
As you can see, there is no thief, and I need one.
The two options are (using shadowkeeper) either change Anomen to a Swashbuckler/Cleric (I have always wanted to try this dual class) or change Mazzy to a multiclass fighter/thief.
Please answer which option you think is better in terms of power, roleplaying, etc...
By the way. Can a swashbuckler/Cleric use an armor heavier than a leather and still able to detect, disarm and open chests?
Thanks in advance

To be honest I can't really see either as a thief... Neither has the personality for it, even a CN Anomen doesn't quite fit, he doesn't have the subtlety or finesse really..
Between the two though, at least Mazzy is a hobbit, so there's some D&D lore there. But still... she wants to be a paladin.
IMO, of all of them, it would make most sense to fiddle with Valygar's class.

No
In my opinion of the two options I'd multi class Mazzy for power purposes, although her alignment is all wrong, but so will Anomen's be when he becomes a knight. Neither of those options are good in my view, but I do prefer a role playing game to a power game.
As you're prepared to cheat there is another option. Tweak your familiar! This can be done by editing out of party characters in SK (make sure your familiar is out of the backpack). Using SK make its class a thief, and set its find traps and open locks to 100. It's a bit time consuming to keep taking it out of your back-pack and putting it back, but worth it IMO.
Of course you could cheat even more and equip it with a Min1HP item so it can't be killed, just make sure it's in your pack when you meet Irenicus!

Rather, the only "heavy" armors that a swashbuckler/cleric could use without losing his/her abilities would be the black dragon scale and the elven chains. In my opinion however, you're better off using Jan's armor.

Damn it!.
Galraen, I am as well more interested in a role playing point of view than in a power party.
Totally agree with Mazzy. She wants to be a paladin so it doesn't make much sense to be a thief...
But Anomen,... Maybe he started his career as a thief, and then realize he wanted to do something better, became a cleric, and try to get acces to the order. What do you think about this option?
On the other hand, that option about the familiar sounds really good. In fact, if I dont use in this party, I will do in another one I have in mind where it's going to help a lot.
Thanks again

Why not make Valygar a fighter/thief?
Alternatively, I think Mazzy could work as a thief/cleric multiclass, as she struggles between her race's propensity to roguery, and her holy aspirations.

Personally, I would ditch Anomen and pick up Imoen. Keldorn can handle your party's healing needs and Imoen is much less annoying than Anomen.
However, from the two options you suggest, I would probably go with SKing Anomen to Swash/Cleric. The role-playing explanation you provide works and you've already got plenty of tankage with Keldorn and Valygar.

Except for the fact that Keldorn can't cast spells no matter how hard he tries.
