Too many forums?

I was just wondering, isn't this site groing to big?
Games where nobody posts ect...
I think if a site grows to fast and to big it can go down by it's own succes?
Just thought I'd bring it up, what do you think?

I don't think it's a matter of "too many forums" but too many "unused" forums. For instance, some of the DAoC forums are rarely used, if ever. Also, the RPG forum is rarely used, as is the V:tMR forum.

That is not the fault of anyone specifically though is it. We have to cater to the masses, and if having a few under used forums brings in those few more punters to use them, then that is no bad thing

that is very true, Sleep. At the same time, if those forums aren't being used, and they remain active, they take up bandwidth, thus make Buck spend that much more cash.

Are they going to take down Arcanum?

As much as hate to see forums go, why not combine some of the DAoC forums. However I don't know much about the game itself.
It is however better then closing forums and may lessen the amount Buck spends as Aegis pointed out
@Al Reyes, I highly doubt it.

I would have thought the forums with most spam are talking up more bandwidth than those waiting for games to be released. I think Buck is just thinking ahead.

Thing that's the most annoying is the fact that all those "dead" forums have their own categories as well... The main board view seems like a graveyard that way.
So one more vote to just throw a couple of forums together.

There is no reason why the extra forums would take up bandwidth, they may take up some space on the server but that would be negligable, because they are not being accessed then there is no file transfer, that means that there is no bandwidth taken up.

What I'm accually thinking of is the following:
A too big site can scare of new users, also people can think "nothing happening here, I'm lookinging for a new site!"
And the list of differend games is getting to long, there are to many variables to one game.

Does anyone know of this occurance when someone has been scared off by the enormity of GB? Might be interesting to know.
I am not sure IMO whether people would be scared off by the large amount of forums, most people will see the one they want and post in it

I don't think they won't go away unless all they want is to spam the board. IMO, it is the best interest of a user to post to a large community that that their question could be answered instantaneously and with accurate detail for some part.

Take the Dark Age of Camelot forum for instance. Never heard of this game, yet it has 4 forums. The main forum has been around since end Februari and still only has 56 posts or something like that. When someone has a question about this game in specific and they notice the low traffic, will they ask their question on that forum, or will they continue their search on the Internet? I think the latter is the case, if I have an urgent problem with anything, I want to solve it asap. A question about BG2 is normally solved within minutes after you post it, but will that be the case with DAoC as well?
Just my 2 cts.

@Grojlach: That is very true, and I think you hit it right on.
for instance, I don't think we need four DAoC forums, especially seeing as the combined posts in them barely (if even) breaches 60. the same is true for Horizens, Shadowbane, and V:tMR. All of those forums are very dead, and are rarely used.

Which might explain why I made the first post in one of them... even though the other posts were around since a long time ago. >_< Just have faith....

Well, I gotta agree with Buck Satan (and NO, I'm not kissing up!!). There are a lot of forums on here that I don't really care about so I don't read them, but I do scan the last post date/time of all of my favorite forums. I probably do that 3 or 4 times a day. I may not post, but when there is something that I can respond to , I do. It doesn't mean that nobody uses the forum. Particularly with things like DAoC, it a great place to know that I (or others) may be able to go get help...
Just my $.02 worth.

I want another forum in BG2. One for anything related to shadowkeeper and CLUAConsole stuff. Unless you set debug_what_ever-to 1 and/or have Shadowkeeper installed these are as good as meaningless.
I have a pretty sluggish and patchy ISP and to read through someones request for help to eventually find 'so give me the creature code for uberblah' is pretty frustrating. Apart from that love the forum and I am sucking up. - Curdis

Personally, I think a computer/internet technical site would be useful. For example, ask compatibility of specific graphic card, how to change Bios set up, the opinion about new programme, etc.
Usually, I sort out by reading magazines/books/manuals, but they are not always in understandable English. I have recently added a new hard disk, and had many questions to ask even before buying one. Mr Sleep kindly helped me out (thanks
), but it would be nice to have somewhere to ask things like that.
Also, most of programme/hardware have difference depends on the country you are in (ie. the US and UK versions are often different), and GB has a lot of people from different countries to help each other...
