Wondering if duel wielding with a rogue is a common thing? I did the duel wield specialization in BG2 with a Fighter and now in IWD2 I went 2 hnd specialization but I have a rogue who has the option of going for it. What do you think about this? Is it a good way to build a rogue and has anyone tried it?

It is definitely viable with rogue. Usually if you are doing heavy sneak damage they will turn and face you but if they do not then you have another attack to do sneak damage with dual wield. Also rogue's benefit from dexterity which is a necessary feature of dual wield. Dex and light armor go hand in hand and thats important for evasion.
Shield's are not very good in icewind dale 2. For this reason 2 handed weapons are the best if you are a strength based character. A rogue is not a strength based character and can benefit from dual wield.
Finally the best weapons to dual wield are shortswords because then you can use 1 weapon focus to beef up both weapons. 2 longswords would give you an additional penalty for wielding 2 medium weapons dual. but two short swords does not.
Oh and shortswords work with weapon finesse as well so that fits with the whole dexterity thing.
Pure rogue is kinda weak for iwd2. And it takes a lot of micromanagement to get the sneak attack going.

sneak attack/dual wield
For effectively making your Rouge sneak attack all the time, have your wizard or sorcerer cast Improved Invisibility on him/her. Run in with your main Tanker or a powerful summon together with the Rouge, and the monsters will focus their attention on the Tank/summon. Thus you'll sneak attack for tons of damage. I have a Rouge/Denmarch Of Mask build for this reason alone ( Thiefling with str10dex20) dualing the best smallblades i can find. Weapon finesse & Focus: Small Blade is obligatory. But the sneak damage is only supposed to apply to 1 attack per combat round, even if you have 2/3/4 attacks availible.
(P.S.) Impr Invisibility is the Mask Domain spell at lvl 4. It will only be availible for the wizard late in the game, Chapter 4 i think, so be sure to take this spell if you play with a Sorcerer, and recast it before every battle

Unless it's a IWDII specific rule, Sneak Attack applies to all attacks that qualify for it. With the Improved Invisibility, that's all attacks in a round.
