after hetta the fourtuneteller in fargrove suggests getting something offered in arcane emporium, mage mcalister offers a dispell spirit barrier. can any tell me what it does?

Hi, I actually have the same question, I have never found out what it does. So an answer would be great. All I can think of is perhaps it has to do with the relics when they're encased in a barrier?? Or something happens automatically that we wouldn't know about unless we didn't have the dispel spirit barrier...

I haven't bothered to buy it the past few times playing through. I don't think it does anything. Just one more thing they forgot to finish before releasing the game.
