Dual-class bug?

I played Icewind Dale when it first came out, and then bought the Ultimate Collection (for ID II) years later. Recently, I decided to play this old game again, with the Heart of Winter expansion. But I'm running into a few bugs.

At least, I THINK they're bugs. The biggie right now is that I'd planned to dual-class a human fighter to mage, but that option is grayed out. She's got 18 Intelligence, and the only low stat is Charisma at 3, so what could be the problem? I've gone around and around with this, and I can't figure it out. If it IS a bug, is there any way I can force a change? A cheat mode or something?

FYI, the other problems were relatively minor. I couldn't install the game at first, but finally a clean reboot and using the setup file directly (rather than through the install program) did the trick.

And rest wouldn't remove the 'fatigued' flag from my paladin, but putting a different character in the lead before resting fixed that. Heck, maybe that's a feature, that the lead character can't get any rest? I certainly don't remember that from the first time I played the game, but I suppose it's possible.

Any suggestions for my dual-class problem? As I say, she's a human fighter with 18 intelligence and everything else above 13 (except for charisma, which shouldn't be a problem). But I can't switch her class to ANYTHING else. I tried removing her armor and weapons (which would not be supported in a mage character), but that didn't help.

Does it matter, as long as Intelligence is high enough? Before creating the fighter, I selected 'mage' to make sure there weren't any other minimums (and I didn't see any). I'm curious, in case I have to make a new character.

But as I mentioned, except for Charisma, the stats are quite high. Charisma is only 3, Strength is 13, Wisdom is 16, and the rest are 18. And if you're wondering,... yes, I checked again, she IS a human.

I believe that to dual class from a fighter to a mage, you need a minimum of fifteen strength and a minimum of seventeen intelligence.

Well, that explains it, then. I didn't realize that you needed strength to become a mage! Thanks!

OK, I started a new, temporary game and created a fighter with 15 strength and high intelligence as the sole character (so she'd get ALL of the experience points in solving the first few quests in Easthaven). And yup, that worked. She was able to dual-class, no problem.

So I exported that character and imported her into my first game, replacing the problem character. I really like that feature (though I don't think I ever used it in my previous game).

According to the section about dualclassing in the manual (p.22) you need at least 15 in all the prime requisites (strength for fighters) of the first class and 17 in all the prime requisites (int for mages) of the second class. This applies to the other AD&D games as well, not only to IWD.

So it's no bug.

I couldn't find it in my original manual (it's not on page 22 in that), but since I played the game previously, I didn't read the whole thing this time. But I did try to read all the dual-class stuff. I guess I just missed that.
