OK, so I just met Sarevok and his friends inside the Temple of the Undercity. I am having a devil of a time killing him. First, here is what I have installed and my party composition:

Hard Times

Me Fighter 6, Mage 6, Thief 7
Khalid Fighter 8th
Minsc Ranger 8th
Yeslick Fighter 7/Cleric 7
Jaheira Figher 7/ Druid 8
Imoen Mage 9/ Thief 6

OK, so I have searched the forums and read about strategy but the ones presented don't seem to work. I have read about backstabbing Sarevok, but I can't get close enough to him (even with improved invis) before he engages in conversation and sicks his minions on all of us.

I cannot seem (whatever I do) to fight his minions first. It's too overpowering with Tazok, and the others banging on me especially with the doom guards.

I do not have a wand of monster summoning (never found one and I think the Hard Times mod is partly why...some of those items were taken out of the normal places to find them).

So...I have Yeslick memorize summon undead and I can get at most 5 creatures out at any one time before the game tells me that's the limit. Imoen can also memorize summon monster III, but this at best gives me a limited amount of distraction which doesn't last long at all.

Any advice or help? I am playing the game on "core rules". I have thought about lowering the difficulty a bit, but want to see if I can beat him on this level since I have made it this far playing that way.

Angelo and Tazok are surprisingly easy to charm, so you should do that pretty quickly.

Sarevok can be backstabbed, yes, so if you have a thief, just keep doing hit and runs.

In my opinion, the main threat is Semaj, so try sticking either Angelo OR Tazok on him. I'd recommend Tazok as Angelo is better at dealing with Sarevok.

Use of arrows of dispelling can be used against the guy who keeps teleporting. They stop him teleporting. Another tactic which can be used first is to use a tank to get the guy with the arrows of detonation to fire at him. The other enemies will converge on him and when hurt by the arrows will attack him after your tank has taken a potion of invisibility. leave them to fight it out between each other and recuperate with spells, healing potions etc. Your summons can be used to separate the bad guys simply by moving them in different directions. They don't need to do damage, just use them to position enemies out of harms way. If you can get Saverok by himself on the LHS you can play ring around the roses with the statues, hiding when you are out of sight. If the hide fails, you do a few more circuits and try again. The boots of speed or other speed enhancers are essential to do this.

This is the rule of thumb when it comes to defeating Sarevok, I find. As well as charm and charm-like spells, hold person is another spell of no little efficacy.

Here is a piece of advice that works like a charm: I noticed you have TUTU installed and have Jaheira in your party. Have her summon a nymph or three (Call Woodland Beings), and let the nymphs take care of Tazok and Semaj both, as nymphs have domination, hold and charm (among other spells) in their spell repetoire.

Thanks for all the help finishing BG1. I completed it this morning. The thing that did the trick is backstabbing Sarevok. I somehow got him to chase my thief (me) around the room and I had gone back and got some invis potions as well as hid behind statues, etc. I used the Staff of Striking instead of my normal sword and I hit him 4-5 times and it was game over.

Where you will face an enemy that makes Sarevok look like a child in difficulty ha ha ha ha

The way I always winn over him, is to have a mage with allot of magic missile scrolls (or a ring of wizzardy) and a cleric with animate dead, if you dont have cleric/druid use wand of summening. Since Sarevok gets some magic ressistance he would ressist 2/3 of the missile, after some spells hes almost dead and with the meat shild spell animate dead you dont need to have much problem facing him. This is if you have the orignal game without restricted to 5 creatures, if not use some web spells or go mediavel with some warriors take the dammage for you. The mage isnt so hard, I use fireball to go through his spell imunity.
