Maybe this is sort of a micro version of the notion that we can "move mountains through faith"

Both comical, impressive and extremely saddening. It upsets me easily enough when someone steals from a church (both because it is a church to begin with and because the money to replace that which was stolen almost always has to be taken from helping the needy) but stealing the church itself.
Doesn't make it any better when you think that those who sell a church for building materials are probably very poor and very desperate. Russia has such problems with poverty that one cannot really fathom the depth of misery many russians live in.

Somebody stole the bleachers (sports field row of seats dunno if that is an american word or not) from a highschool in my area. Probably sold the materials. Pretty stupid considering taxpayers spent money to build the bleachers and refine those materials.

If god wanted his church back, he's a big enough boy to take it from them.

You've obviously not been exposed to/traumatized enough by all the random crap you'll find out there.

Reminds me of a similar incident that happened to a small chapel in my town. It didn't disappear, but the whole chapel was trashed by vandals and anything made of gold or any other precious metals were stolen (altar, chalice, candle stands, etc.). Churchgoers are pissed at that. That means replacing those stolen items with the donations aimed at paying the usual expenses and helping the needy.
Eventually, the church managed to replaced the stolen items, but much lower quality ones and installed security bars to prevent any future thefts. The fact that some goofs are willing to stoop that low to rob a place of worship amazes me sometimes.

Yes it is. It's not hard to steal a building if you have a few sledgehammers and a few trucks. Now...stealing it and not getting caught is what's awesome about it.

Hah, not so awesome if you're in Russia. Believe me it's not the strangest thing that you can encounter here. I remember one summer holidays I were spending with my parents on dacha (I really don't know the english word for it. I think, ehh, village will do

) when all of a sudden the electricity turned off (sorry, it's kind of hard to explain such situations in english for me

). The whole settlement was out of power. After a few days it turned out that some freak cut off a piece of wire that provided electricity for village to sell it. I'm still wondering how did he survive this.
