Problem with lightning

I hope that someone can help me. I can't get past the training because my lightning spell won't hit anything! I hold down left shift, target the dummy and press left click. Lightning comes out but doesn't hit the dummy. Even when I am right on top of it! Any ideas?

You have to hold down the left mouse button for a little longer. Only then lightning will come out of it.

Lightning is coming out put it is not hitting the target. I don't know how else to explain it. The dummies never get hit.

OK, so I'm an idiot. Hold down the left mouse button not just click. D'oh! Thanks for your help.
