am taking a severe thrashing in here and don't seem to be able to kill either the skeletons or the umber hulks.......pathetic, I know, but would apprecitate any helpful hints.......

If you can't beat them then don't fight them.
Just sneak by, use the pixie dust spell to make all your party members invisible.

Well, have you any cleric? Skeleton Warriors in this game usually is level 9, sometimes 10, no more. You should might turn them. However, check if you are not dealing with Bone Golems, it might be harder. Umber hulks might be object of cloudkill and fireball, all might be cast out of sight. Your pets might shield you if any of those come to your direction occasionally (have your own skeletons, for one thing, they are immune to Umber Hulks' psi attack). Try lure them out one by one. BTW, the room you should find the Bag, is good place to rest

Do you have the Shield of Harmony? You get it from the Guildmistress in Trademeet after dealing with the druid problem. That shield will protect the wielder from the umber hulks' confusion attacks. Then, swing your sword-arm to and fro, and watch umber hulk pieces fly. Of course, if you had some extra dog meat and a stove...

Umber hulks, Bah! Simply use a death spell (hooribly effective, if you ask me) and you wont have any more trouble from them. Edwin did this to the umber hulks next to the exit(the big head you know) and there were like 5 umbers and one minotaur. All died.
