Oblivion Crashed and i lost my save!!!

So this is what happened to me.

I was playing Oblivion and did a couple quests. I then saved the game and exited the game. I came back a little while later and loaded the save. Everything was working fine. I then proceeded to do a few more quests and some other things.

Then the game crashed. This has been happening quite frequently recently and i can't find the problem. However this time when it crashed when i went to play again the most recent save was hours earlier. I lost all the quests etc i have done. This was weird considering i had literally lost 3 or 4 saves. The save it loaded and recognised as the most recent was really a long time ago.

These crashes are breaking my heart slowly :) . Just wondering is there anything i can do to regain where i was in the game or do i have to do everything again?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

How much memory do you have? What's your video card? Is anything running in the background while you play, such as a virus checker?

...always save 2 times before you exit the game...

...on my PC Oblivion has a good chance to crash, while leaving the game to windows and in this case the last save is always lost - but the 2nd last is almost always (99%) ok!

If you're playing on a PC then by default the saves go into a folder in My Documents, the full path is My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves.

If you look in that folder then you'll notice that there are two Quicksave and Autosave files, one of each having a .ESS extension, and one of each having a .BAK extension. This is because whenever Oblivion makes a Quick or Auto save it backs up the previous quick or auto save. You can restore these by deleting or renaming the Quicksav.ess or autosave.ess files and renaming Quicksave.bak and Autosave.bak as Quicksave.ess and autosave.ess.

I suggest backing up the folder before doing this just in case.

Game Saves

Its hard to find a website that has PC game saves. When your stuff gets corrupted, most of the time, if you haven't backed up your computer, your out of luck. I did a search for websites that would have a game save for Oblivion, and Morrowind, but its almost as if they don't exist. PC game saves are hard to come by.
