I have just downloaded Google Talk and I'm wondering how well it integrates with Gmail's built in chat function.
For example, can I message somebody on my Gmail contact list from Google Talk if they don't have Google talk but rather, just a Gmail account?
Since my Gmail contact list appears on my Google Contact list, I'm going to assume this is the case. but I can't tell at this point.

Anyone know how this all works?

I've actually never used Google Talk, although it is integrated and activated in my Trillian.
So I don't actually know for sure - but my guess would be no, and that the recipient would need a Google Talk account to receive the message.

Can't be difficult to test though

I actually just tested it with my SO earlier. Turns out that they are in fact fully integrated. I hailed him through Google Talk without my Gmail even being open, and he was able to reply via his Gmail account.
I will need to use some kind of IM software that does not have a limit on post length (like MSN does) so this could be the asnwer
