Just curious. Assuming you exchange gifts with anybody at this time of the year, what did you receive, and how did you like it?

I'll start things off. My wife snuck in when I had my Amazon wish list up one day, and copied off all the stuff I have in it that I periodically look at, and decide against buying. Then, she bought several items on the list, two of which are Rossellini film re-releases come January. I also got the music journals of John Marsh, a little known late 18th century English amateur composer of considerable talent, and a 1950s filmed version of Rimsky-Korsakov's opera, Sadko.

Books, lots'n lots of books, including a gorgeous 1932 leather bound collection of Sherlock Holmes stories in almost mint condition. Hmmm, and an iron frying pan that I've been wanting, and some fishing lures.

This is actually embarrassing, but because we were so stupidly busy, the holidays literally snuck up on us and at the last moment we didn't really know what to get one another. So, we decided that after boxing month insanity we are going to go out and get something we both really want. A new espresso machine tops the list because the one we bought more than 15 years ago is on its last legs. We're also thinking of music, and maybe a day of spa treatments
I love espresso and coffee drinks generally, so this idea would not upset me in the slightest.

We did remember our son though, he received a lot of lounge wear and a very nice set of wireless gaming headphones.

and the award for most cultured christmas loot goes to... fable! with moonbiter close second.

im far far behind with my chocolate, guitar hero band set, and "tommy the movie" DVD.

I got a iphoto calender of my beer brewing adventures shown in print. A pema chodron set of teachings on CD. The dammapada and the tibetan book of the dead. Sacred 2. A scale with timer for beerbrewing timing/weighing. Yay!

A 20 pack of Jiffy Pop, a 24 pack of Dr. Pepper, and 90 bucks (5 of which I lost to a few rounds of poker against my grandmother that evening).

One that covers my passion..."Delta Blues" by Ted Gioia..history of the blues.
kids went together and got me seasons 3 and 4 of the Sopranos, and...

a brand new Xbox....stayed up almost all night breaking it in...:laugh:

Books, money (for spa treatments ), a new cordless keyboard/mouse combo and a 24 inch wide-screen LCD monitor (which I unpacked a week before Christmas because I simply could not wait any longer ).

Books, wine glasses, DVDs, NWN2: Storm of Zehir, rum and an issue of Battle Pope, along with some money and some clothes.

For some reason, it was the Christmas of food baskets, one of which promptly went to the local food bank because it was filled with bacon and other remnants of unhappy pig. On the opposite end of the spectrum, a couple that knows us well made a donation of a goat and water buffalo to the Heifer Foundation in our name. We also received a much needed set of winter/christmas china, since now that we have a house that allows it, we are entertaining more and have very little in the the china department. But our most cherished present is an adventure in Peru sometime this year, hopefully with a shamanic encounter and a blood sacrifice.

At least 50 presents from students and colleague alone... As a school admin, I'm obligated to declare all the gifts I got from my students. Yup, we had to fill up the form and submit to HR.

Various types: neckties, hankies, tarts, cookies, cake, designer shirts, non-designer shirts, a money tree, a wall clock, Japanese whiskey, designer cologne, non-designer cologne, post-its, pen set, colored pens set, hi-lighters, cook book, the list goes on...

Hmmm... lets see...

Oh yeah, I also got Digital Box (not sure the proper english term) which is able to record two different tv channels while watching third.
And, to complete the set, I got also 42 inch plasma television. Just to replace my old 17 inch tv...

.. so I'm guessing seventeen beautiful Swedish virgins would be a bit out of the ordinary?

It's a bit crowded in here, but I've never had more fun playing croquet.

Could you possibly be the only one here who didn't at least try to ask Santa for human offerings? That's a trifle embarrassing, isn't it?

Also I'm pretty sure not all of them are Kipi.

I have never received a christmas present before in my entire life. This year marks a big change.

Just 4 things - we aren't much into christmas except for my youngest grandchild (who got tons!):

1. Leonard Cohen Biography called 'Hallelujah'

2. There's Probably No God, The Atheist's Guide to Christmas

3. A pashmina

4. A box of chocolates.

And, best of all, a dinner cooked by my son! (who is a much better cook than I am)

Next to Cohen, I like Bob Dylan. Most fave song is Lay, Lady, Lay (across my big brass bed). The early version, not the later one, which is awful.
