What classic creatures from D&D adventures do you think should have made an appearance in the BG series (or even IWD)? Here are a few which were in many of my old school modules...:
1) Rust monster
2) Stirge
3) Hook Horror
4) Cloaker
5) Manticore
6) Displacer beast
7) Gelatinous Cube
8) Piercer
9) Quickling
10) Bugbear
11) Hill Giant
12) Pegasus/Centaur/Unicorn

Boring (and other) Beetles
Bulettes
Catoblepas
Chimera
Cockatrice/Pyrolisk
Hydra
Naga
Nightmares
Ropers
Will-o-the-Whisp
Xorn
and the bane of all knights, Rust Monsters! I've know warriors who would defy Orcus without flinching who would run screaming at the thought of their precious armour being devoured by Rust Monster! LOL

Tarrasque ;-)
But the tarrasque is mentioned in BG1. I can't remember who but if you engage in dialogue with a guy he asks you who you are and one of your options is: "We're a horde of rampaging tarrasques, raahhh!!!" And he basically responds with "okey dokey..."or something like that and moves on.
) Easily my favorite line in the game.
Ropers suck. As do hydras.
Derro
Wererats
Intellect Devourer

Ropers and Hydras suck in what way? Too much of a nuisance or too pathetic? If the latter I guess it depends on how the DM plays them, I've had some very nast encounters when Ropers have been involved.
I thought of some psionic creatures, but unfortunately 2E rendered many of them useless when they took Psionics out of the game for some unknown reason.

They suck as in I have lost characters to both on more than one occasion.
They did bring psionics back into 2E in one of the brown books. Wasn't bad to play a Psionic as an actual character class. They could get quite powerful.

they got even better in edition 2.5 which, for me, remain the best edition of AD&D ever
regarding monsters, I agree on the rust monster - it was in eye of the beholder 2, if I am not mistaken and that was a pain!
