Hi, this is my first time soloing a dragon without using traps. I need a lot of advice and some tactics. I'm that determined that I don't want to use another party member to get this done. I'm playing as a stalker that's proficient in Quarterstaffs and long bows. I would like to know any tactics that would be helpful. Any help would be great guys

That is not sth with what I would want to take on a shadow dragon, a specially one that has a habbit of dispell magic. My first guess would be to use the best enchanted staff available to you and bring plenty of invisibility potions. Backstabb it till it drops. Of course all the regulars come to mind. All possible buffs and i always like to use ring of the ram. It does damage becouse chuck norris says so and no dragon can say no to chuck.

can you backstab with a quarterstaff? I don't think so... I though only the staffmace was allowed to... I might be wrong though

mmm.... that sounds tough... I would bring in the elemental guardian and the golem from the statuette and the figurine... thos will keep the dragon at bay while you can try to pound him with your staff (I wish you to have TDD installed - that gives that shady a marvelous staff, The Staff of Fleet)
otherwise you can try to take him from a distance, provided that you can use a potion of speed.... also use all the good potions you have (potion of invulnerability and potions of strength come to mind as those are hard to dispel)
unfortunately I have never soloed and never used a stalker so I can't give you more specific tips...

I would give this strategy a shot. Buy a prot. from magic. Be sure to have the wardstone with you to have the first move. I am not sure if the buffs stay on you when you use the scroll, but if they do use barkskin to lower ac and some spells to buff saving throws. you cant feeblemind or spook him , which are the two easiest ways of killing dragons. All you have is doom and I dont think it's worth a try becouse it will never get trough MR and ST. Plus the effect is moderate, becouse it won't do anything about physical damage that will kill you Very fast. Perhaps there is a way to send in cloudkills and drink potions of inv. Some creatures in the game like the mind flayers don't do anything after the caster reequips the staff of cheese.
DO NOT READ EVER. BAD FOR THE EYES, BECOUSE IT CONTAINS UGLY, FILTHY, UNWATED BUT "HARD TO SAY NO" SPOILERS.
In the user unfriendly cheese guide there is a neet trick called the potion swap. Check it out and picture feeblemind.

You can not backstab dragons, so forget about stealth and such. I take from your post that you have other party members, so you can bring down its protections easily. Then that only depends on sheer melee power (I assume you have Staff of Rynn). IIRC shadow dragon's breath drains levels, so you might wanna equip mace of disruption occasionally. Also don't forget to cast resist fear on your party, they generally tend to freak out easily.

I know you can backstab with a staff of the ram, but I've never used any other staff and I don't know if it is classified as a staff mace

Thanks for the tips. Some one mentioned that there was a staff of the fleet in Darkest Day. I forgot to mention I am playing darkest day. Where can I find this staff, I looked it up in Shadowkeeper, it looks pretty good. Can someone tell me where it is found?

I don't know if the mods you have installed would make the Shadow Dragon tougher, nor do I know your current Stalker levels or party composition. Here's how I would do this battle though:
Stalker level at least 20 with ToB installed - for several HLA and maximized spell effects.
Amulet of Power or Improved Mace of Disruption at your disposal - Shadow Dragon Breath drains 4 levels.
Defender of Easthaven at your disposal
It would be nice for your Stalker to be at least proficient (best if specialized) in a good 1-handed weapon as well, preferably Flails.
Also, it would be very wise to have a normal (unenchanted) 1-handed weapon.
My personal recommendation or how would I do it in a solo Stalker game:
Level 20+, at least 1 Hardiness anyway, and a WW and GWW attack.
Main hand Defender of Easthaven, off-hand Belm or Kundane.
Amulet of Power equipped
Shield in Harmony in pack (I would switch to it in order to avoid some nasty disabling spells)
Armor of Faith as main defensive buff(with it, DoE and Hardiness your Stalker will have 85% melee damage resistances) - keep refreshing it if the dragon somehow dispels it.
The Dragonslayer sword in pack - useful vs Dragon Fear and for a killing blow.
Tactic:
Attack with DoE main and Belm off-hand. Remove Traxi's stoneskin. Use in the meantime Dragonslayer sword and Harmony Shield when needed.
Traxi will probably cast his one and only ProMW. Switch to a normal 1-handed weapon, moving Defender of Easthaven to the off-hand.
Remove all of Traxi's stoneskins, and switch to Dragonslayer main and DoE off, with WW and GWW attacks for killing blows. Drink healing potions or use Resurrection charges from a wand to heal your Stalker if need be (probably only once, and only if you play on Hard or Insane).

why don't you try to use arrows of dispelling to bring down his protections and then go in and smash him to pulp? Chaotic commands would be most precious to avoid being stunned...
I am sorry about the staff of fleet - you have to kill the dragon to get it...

Haven't played this for years so not 100% sure, but i seem to remember that you can pretty much oneshot the shadowdragon using the sunray from Daystar if your character can wield that.
