As I mentioned in the thread you posted in the IWD2 forum, please tell us more about your system, it might help troubleshoot your problem :)

systems specs.

i am running windows xp pro on a dell inspiron e1505 with a core 2 duo processor 2 g memory 120g hard drive a top of the line graphics and sound card. i had the game once be for on my laptop and it worked just fine. i even uninstalled a lot of games i was no longer playing just to make sure i had plenty of room on it. my anti-virus is avg 8.0. i have had the computer just over a year.

OK, can you be specific? :)

The reason I say this is because people can experience problems trying to play IWD with newer Nvidia cards. (specifically, the 8800 series)

When I installed IWD on my new computer (which sounds fairly similar to yours) it took a long time for the discs to actually install, and I was fully patched as well.

I'd guess that even with XP it can be tricky to run older games on newer machines.

Are you certain it is actually uninstalling everything and not simply updating your game?

Because when you install an expansion, it overwrites a good amount of game files, permanently editing them.

You will have to uninstall the entire thing.
