Life without Megaton

Possible spoilers ahead.

I've yet to side with Mr Burke in the Power Of The Atom and how much of an impact to the game doing so makes?
I use Megaton as my main stop off point for selling on all the stuff I accrue through the game, I know there's other places to go and there's Tenpenny Tower to replace megaton but still. I likes it there.

Those of you who've chosen to live in TPT instead, do you find it makes it that much harder to get by in the game or it doesn't make any real difference? I find it hard enough to sell on all my rubbish even without losing 4 merchants.

I played once using Megaton and once using Tenpenny Tower. I liked Megaton better. You can repair there, the caravans stop there, and you can turn in scrap metal there. But there are a bunch of merchants in the game. You can always head to Rivet City to sell stuff.

Spoiler
Moira is the only one to survive Megaton's destruction, and that only because she was ghoulified. Seek her in Underworld (Museum of History). Don't know if she's still a merchant, but she will still do the Wasteland Survival Guide Questline.
Tenpenny Tower, to me, isn't worth it. Megaton has a more central location than the SW corner of the map. I'd rather pop a few bullets into Burke's head, really.

Megaton can't be entered due to the High radiation from the bomb.

PC Users note: There is a mod that will allow you to save Megaton, and still get the Tenpenny Suite, EVEN if you killed off everyone in the Tenpenny Tower quest.

Yeah I do often go to Rivet City but only really cos most of the merchants are in one place, Underworld isn't too bad either. like GoldDragon says, TPT is just too much of a pain to get to and Megaton is in the middle of the land pretty much. The people are nicer too.

I had bother with giving Walter the scrap metal in Megaton though. He disappeared basically, so I couldnt give him anything. I thought he might have fallen off and died but nope. Gone.

The corpse may have disappeared, as after certain time those do. Also, I have heard that sometimes NPCs get "teleported" far away, even to outside city limits.

Also, Megaton is starting point of one quest which can't be got anywhere else. The android quest.
End of Spoiler.

I usually either kill Burke or fix the bomb, most of the time I fix the bomb, which makes Burke to disappear after short dialogue. Megaton is just way too convient place to be blown out by bomb.

Yeah this is quite likely. Hmph.

I'm not sure about this. Granted I've always started this quest with Doc Brown but I think you can speak to any of the medical staff in the game and more than a few of them will have holodisks to give you and trigger the quest.

This is true. The Doc in Megaton is only more convient, not necessarily critical to the quest.

Ojay, I was mistaken then. Probably have just missed the other disks, as I can't remember ever seeing such anywhere else than Megaton.

But wasn't certain lady critical to that quest to continue, who lives in Megaton?

The only lady critical to the quest is Victoria Watts, who lives in Rivet City. There are a bunch of holotapes that you can read for the quest, but the extra ones disappear once you've completed the quest, and so maybe that's why you've only seen the Magaton ones.

I tried living both places as well, and I liked Megaton better..

Tenpenny Tower is good looking, and, more or less, nothing more..

IF you do wanna blow up Megaton, do the "Wasteland Survival Guide" quest first, because the rewards for that quest is great. :D

Meh. Lady Critical to that quest survives as a Ghoul. After a few days, she pops up in Underworld.
