Would this class work for Soloing?

I am thinking about soloing the game after I get done with beating the game with a party. Keep in mind, this is going to be a while from now; but nevertheless I just want to know what everyone else thinks.
I am thinking about going maybe with a ranger turned thief, but I am not sure if that would be a good idea. Is it possible to beat the game with a ranger turned thief. And if so, what would be the best choices to make. Like how many levels with each class? Which should I start as? I was thinking of using weapon finesse for short swords. I also thought of maybe using cleave, but I'm not sure if that would well. What does everyone else think??

You can solo the game with such a build, no matter how you distribute the levels. Soloing a caster class would be far easier however.
It's recommended to start as thief since you get more skillpoints this way.
I'd go the thief1-ranger6-thief2-ranger12-thief3-ranger x route for more hitpoints and spells, but any level order or distribution should work.
You can even mix in other class levels for additional benefits like 4 fighter levels for weapon specialisation, paladin levels for the quest bonus, specialist wizard levels for mirror image, ...
A weapon finesse build is a bad idea, there's no one else to do the damage, str is more important than dex, you'll fall asleep trying to take down enemies with 100 HP if you do only 1-6 damage per hit, especially if they've damage resistance. 2-handed weapons will become far superior very soon.
Nice feats to take early on are power attack, cleave, dash and dodge.
If you want powergaming stats maximize str,dex and con, minimize int and cha and put the rest into wis.
If you think you'll have more fun if you can spend more skillpoints (for identifying items or disarming traps for example) raise int. Then 12 wis should be enough at the start, you get a potion for winning level 2 in the battle squares.

I appreciate your advice. It suddenly opens my eyes. Not to switch the subject but since you said Weapon finesse is a bad idea; What about a Multiclass Monk/Thief. That's another build I was thinking of doing. Would that be viable?

If you want to do physical damage you need high strength and if you have high strength you don't need weapon finesse.
Monk/thief is playable, but I'd rather play a pure class monk.
Monks gain their abilities with levels, multiclassing only slows them down. Getting BAB from another class will destroy the unarmed attack progression.

What about this: A Cleric of Mask who multiclasses into a thief for ten levels. That way you can skulk around and open locks, backstab. And at the same time summon crazy skeletons and zombies at your side. I would think you should get 10 or 9 levels as a thief for 5d6 backstab damage and the rest be devoted all to cleric so you can reach lvl 9 spells. How would that work, is that soloable?

It will be even easier than with the other builds. Cleric spells are powerful. The more cleric and the less thief levels you take the easier the game will be. 1d6 extra sneak attack damage is nothing compared to the additional spellcasting power you gain for 2 cleric levels.
