I started an paly (inquisitor) this time around..first time was with a berserker and he rocked!..so i get this almighty carsomyr and get all excited to use it in battle..however, it turns out that it isn't that great for me..i do have 2 proficienceies in 2 hand weaponry and 2 handed swords, however, i seem to miss a lot and i dunno...i don't kill that fast either...even with my berserker and celestial fury...i kicked much more ass then with carsomyr and when he got crom feayr..he became damn near invinsible...so do u guys think that crom feayr would be better then carsomyr on a paly or is it just that paly's are crap fighters compared to berserkers.

If you had Crom Faer used by a fighter with a high expertise in hammers it would be awesome. Carsomyr is good for magic protection though.

In my case I duel wield the Celestial Fury and the Blade of Roses. Had very good luck with this too.

As for the Carsomyr IMHO it is overrated.

Yes my name is Weasel , but that doesn't mean I sleep with them.

yeah..the magic protection is the only thing i think is really cool about carsomyr...but with crom feayr, u do get that 25 strength and seem to kill faster

Carsomyr's ability to dispel magic, and the magic protection, make it much more valuable than simple killing speed. You'll come up against some foes where you'd rather have Carsomyr.

Plus, other NPCs can wield (the best pure weapon in the game) Crom Faeyr.

p.s. Don't forget to give your Paladin a belt of ____ Giant Strength. Obviously, the higher the strength, the closer Carsomyr comes to being an equally quick killer.

Doing the math:

Str 21: +4/+9 (Frost Giant Belt)
Str 25: +7/+14 (Crom Faeyr)
(Off the top of my head - hope I have these right!)

Carsomyr: d12+5+5 (+5 vs chaotic evil) = 16.5 + 9 = 25.5
Crom Faeyr: 2d4+3+4 (+4 elec not in desc) = 12 + 14 = 26

So, if I remembered my numbers right, they work out almost the same in damage against CE foes where Carsomyr gets it's full bonus AND the wielder is wearing the Frost Giant Belt. Also remember you can get Carsomyr much earlier in the game but Crom Faeyr leaves a hand free.

An enraged berzerker will have +2/+2, another +1/+2 from advanced specilization and probably another +1 or +2 to hit from having a higher level for a total of +5/+4 at max level. So, the advantage is partly the weapon and partly the wielder.

I would use Carsomyr with your paladin, the magic resistance and dispel effects are very useful and by the time you max out you'll hit almost all the time anyway.

As far as the best weapon in the game, Crom Faeyr may hit harder, but Flail of Ages is better in a duel due to the no-save slow effect (10-0 with otherwise identical level 19 barbarians).

Nighthawk, Two things: I've been using Crom Faeyr and I never noticed the bonus electrical damage). And second, can you explain what you mean by the Flail of the Ages slow effect? My (retired) dual-wielding Barbarian used Crom Faeyr and the Flail of the Ages. Are you saying its better to use the Flail main hand (more attacks) and the Hammer off hand?

Strangely, if you're max level and dual wielding as a fighter you'll get 4 attacks and it seems that 2 are main hand, 2 off hand.

When I was running my duels, whenever a character would get hit with Crom Faeyr I would see the electricity and it would do something like:

testbar1 hit testbar2 for 18
testbar1 hit testbar2 for 4

I don't remember the exact combat text, but it looked like the second row was 4 electrical.

The slow effect is an abillity of the FoA. It doesn't show up on the characters picture, but he will move visibly slower and get less attacks. This difference in number of attacks was enough to make the difference in the duels I used.

If you are using both with an uneven number of attacks the main one will get the extra. I think the slow will work anyway so the question is which does more damage. Comparing the two (str and other bonuses that go to both are irrelevant in this case, assuming equal skill with both weapons):

FoA: 1d6+4+1+1+1 = 10.5
CF: 2d4+3+4? = 8 or 12?

So, if the electricity bonus does happen CF is better for the main hand when using both, otherwise FoA.
