All good reasons, actually.

The first reason cannot be properly appreciated without examining various philosophical aspects of God's love.

The second reason is along the lines “don’t worry, be happy” and “got milk?” I say, get a life.

If you pick the third answer, you might be either a hypocrite or suffering from the inferiority complex. Come on, admit it: you are better than “them”. Much better.

Perhaps you choose number four? Let me shake your hand, good sir… m’am.

Sometimes you hear, “just ignore him/her/them”. Do you find it easy to follow such advice?

In other words, what is your attitude towards the people you dislike?

I wait until I can stab them down without them seeing it coming.

I'm not really a subscriber of the "people can change" in this aspect of their personality. Once they do (me) harm, I'm sure they're more then capable of doing it again.

I'm trying to decide between 5 and 6....

Hate works. Of course, I usually ignore them, but if they bring themselves to my attention by doing something unpleasant, you never can tell what might happen as a result.

I finally decided that even while I'm ignoring my enemies I still hate them, so that is the option I ended up selecting

What can I say... I've just never been the "turn the other cheek" type....
That's not to say I'm incapable of forgiveness or that I don't recognise sometimes people mess up... But, if somebody really hurts me or somebody I care about, if they betray me in some way.. that is it, in my eyes they're done.

People rarely become my enemies (I may become theirs, though) since I totally ignore everybody I dislike so much so they'd have the potential to develop into an enemy. The only exception is if somebody, for some reason, decides to intentionally harm me for personal reasons. It has only happened very few times in my life that someone has, but if they want to play that game; go ahead, I'm quite well equipped to defend myself and annilihate harmful elements targetted at me.

As if most people even have enemies. Not an insult to the OP, it's a worthwhile discussion and philosophical topic, but honestly, enemies??? What are you, superheroes?

Like Kyle I'm far to uninteresting to have enemies.

My attitude towards people I dislike changes depending on why I dislike them. Some reasons for dislike usually results in attempting nr 6 with varying degrees of success. In some cases I find that nr 5 and nr 6 can coexist quite peacefully.

In other cases I can relax, comfortable in the knowledge that I am much much better than "them".

Maybe we can count the number of links to buddhist websites in this thread to somehow measure his response?

Yep! In fact I don't just actively hate my enemies, often I derive great pleasure by plotting vengeance ....

People who have made an enemy out of me, I forgive and love. Nothing can annoy them more. People who have become my enemies, I hate intently and passionately, and pray to the gods of the underworld they don't have the gall to forgive and love me, as nothing would annoy me more. Those who do, I ignore until I forget, because hate spent on them is hate wasted.

How many years have you spent in a competitive national workplace environment, Kyle? Which one?

As for me, I've had editors looking to push their proteges, who lied repeatedly so that people employing me would cut down my assignments. Or in two cases, cut me out altogether. (They succeeded, too. Colleagues you see on a daily basis wield a lot more clout than someone you work with long distance.) The world isn't nasty, but there are some real bastards around--and for all I know, they may contribute half their income to orphanages. But screwing me over isn't the way to make me cuddly towards them. Hey, maybe I should play kissie face?

Enemies don't have to don on a mask and grind menacingly while tying a women to the train tracks
It can be people who try to come out ahead in a situation by trying to put blame upon you if situations where something went wrong for example. Those are no friends of mine, and I dislike them for it, and will keep that in mind when ever I do other dealings with them. And if working under some sort of stressful situation or competitive situation - it is far from unheard of.

Why? Because for me, that was the only option that made sense. Why? Because they wouldn't be my enemies if I loved them. Sure I may start out in love at first, but that can go away if she harms me in some way.

You've never lived if you don't have enemies. Success, talent, brains, luck cause envy and resentment. There is nothing more satisfying for some people than watching a successful person fail.

I am not talking about so-called "success" achieved by backstabbing, ass-kissing and manipulation (common practices). When such people fail, it is our civic duty to rejoice.
No, I am talking about people who dare to be talented and successful when they are not supposed to be, from their co-workers' point of view.

(On a side note, it is rather an exception than a rule when a a truly intelligent, talented, deserving individual rises to power. Does it happen because decent people can't compete with crafty morons? Or because the Big Morons prefer to promote other morons who are even dumber, to safeguard their own position?)
