DL CE played fine on my old system, but I've now got a new Dell 530S with Vista Basic on it. I went through the steps concerning changing the properties so it'll play on Vista, but when I go to start the game, a black box will briefly appear on my screen them close. I read that it's probably the graphics card that same installed which is causing the problems. Any suggestions for a good graphics card that'll fit in a 530S?
I'm going mad without my DL fix!

its your os
i hate to break it to you butthe problem you are experiencing is because of your operating system not your graphics card. my friend has a regular530 with vista and cannot play the game. my system is a 5year old dimension2400 (p4,256mb ram, 64mb graphics, and xp) and i have no problems at all. i have added 512mb of ram to the 256 and a geforce mx4000 128mb graphics card. at 800x640 or what ever starts with the 800 runs decent. i have to look down when running around trees of the fps drops to around 7 or 8 unless i look down. i do have to keep the settings kind of low to get playable frames and my friend when playing some games i play has better graphics.
one thing i have heard to do is to set the compatability to win xp or 2000 and then it should work. if it does not then your probably having the same problem he has. I hope this has helped you in some way.
you could switch over to linux (my hdd crashed so i havent had time to test dl on linux but im sure it would work better than on vista:angry

Can I Run It?
Anytime I want to know if I can run a program on my machine, I go to
Can You Run It? Powered by System Requirements Lab. Unless you have already set your firewall (you do use a firewall, right?) to trust the site, you may need to switch it off to allow the DL and program to function, It will dl a small SAFE program and run it to check the capabilities of your machine. It has a list of limited programs to pick from, but it also tells you details about your machine, AND suggests any hardware upgrades that you might need to run a program, along with different vendors carrying that hardware and the current pricing of each. It's absofrigginlutely handy to have in your favorite bookmarks, IMO.
If you gotta use Vista, you will need to make the settings changes already mentioned about running the game on Vista mentioned here and in other threads about problems with crashes and lock-ups. Personally, I dumped it and went back to XP.
If you run a partitioned HD with dual-boot and a different OS for each, you could save yourself a lot of frustration with getting programs to work.
