Having read the updated jupp I've been wondering about the Rogue2/Bardx/Druidy character that is mentioned. Having started to play one and enjoying the combination of loads of skill points with animal physical stats and singing I started wondering which items apply whilst in animal form. Obviously armour does not, and from what I can work out neither do rings of protection. However spell effects remain in place so does that mean that items which confer spell effects, the Girdle of Beautification for example, still work? And I know from a previous druid character that Nature's Vengeance works.

One item I was wondering about in particular was the lyre of progression, do the stat boosts apply when in animal form?

Are there any hard and fast rules for this or do I need to see on a case by case basis?

Yes, stat boosts do apply in animal form, giving you some very impressive stats and spells also apply, including those that include AC.

Personally, I think that the builds that utilize wildshape have no chance on the HoF mode, unfortunately.

In general, you want stat bonuses, items that give magic effects and resistances.

Personally, I usually take a level of fighter or barbarian so that I can use the Dwarven Ogre as a belt +6 to Strength. As for form, I think that Dire Panther is the best, without having to level to air elemental (which would leave you at 22 or so).

Also, in terms of AC, you really should have enough Int for Expertise and at least one Monk level for the Wisdom AC bonus. Yes, I do realize that all this will give you a huge experience penalty.

If you go with a monk level, ideally you want a Wisdom booster somewhere in there and either way, the best rings, in my opinion, are Tymora's Loop rings, unfortunately they are random and thus difficult to find.
