hello, im pretty new to IWD, although im pretty much veteran to AD&D as ive played that for many years as GM with some friends years ago when we were younger ( good times :( )

ive finished BG1 like 5 times and BG2 2 times, and i dunno why ive never tried playing IWD, and its on download right now!

i would like to have some advices from you because when playing with my friends we have always used main classes and never tried multiclasses and dual classes, and in BG Npg where generated by default and then ive never had the problem to create a well balanced party with multiclasses and dual classes...

i have in mind something like this:

1) Fighter ( pure till the end )
2) Paladin
3) Fighter/Thief ( elf multiclass)
4) Fighter --> Mage ( dualled round level 3 )
5) Fighter --> Cleric ( dualled round level 3)
6) Bard

1) i would like to have a pure fighter until the end without nerfing him with the dual class at late game and pushing him far with the extra attack and thac0.
2) just another tank for support, pretty much handful
3) in my experience having a high level thief is too much situational, i think that maybe around level 10 he is able to do everything he has to do pretty good, than i was thinking to multiclass him with fighter class letting him use Long bow and having better thac0 ( he can use long bow as a Thief multiclass right? )
4-5) i just want them to be high level mage and cleric, and having some benefits from Fighter like weapon spec and plus HP
6) never used one i want to give him a try!

what do you think about it?
am i missing something or is it a good setup to start?

Thanks for your help

This party setup should get you through the game without too much trouble, you have everything except druidic spells and shapeshifts.

If - and only if - you don't have the HoW expansion consider dualing character 4 to conjurer for an extra spell per day without disadvantage (the bard can identify) and starting character 5 as ranger for access to the druid spells.
