Spoiler: Upgrading Sword of Roses

I'm playing with the Item Upgrade, Ease of Use, Underrepresented Items, Amber and Solefein mods. During one of my visits to Cromwell he commented on Amber's bracelet with the red ruby and said that it could be used to upgrade the Sword of Roses. I bought the sword and went back to Cromwell but I couldn't get Amber to give up her bracelet. What needs to be done to convince Amber to allow Cromwell have her bracelet? My party has just traveled on to Brynnlaw island so it will be awhile before I'll have access to Cromwell again.
