My first guess it has something to do with your desktop settings. Trying running IWD in the same resolution & colourdepth as your desktop.
Other than that, what are your PC specifications? Operating System?

PC Specs:
Dell XPS 400 Desktop

Systems Information
Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3070 RAM
Page File: 465MB used, 3978MB available
DirectX ver.: DirectX 9.0c

Display Devices
Card Name: NVIDIA GeFORCE 7800GTX
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (75hz)
Monitor Max Res: 1600,1200

Here it is. I don't have any idea what it all means, but if it helps solve the problem please let me know.
How do you check what the game display mode is?
Also why would this problem just come up now and not sooner in the game?
Up until I got to the 2nd level of Dragon's Eye, everything was working great.

Thanks in advance for any and all help
Sonny :) :)

I seem to have e vague memory of nVideo cards doing difficult with IWD. Maybe search the boards for that?
Try running IWD in 1024*768 resolution via the IWD Config tool and put it in 32-bit.

[url="http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=30840"]This thread[/url] has some useful information on running IWD (and similar games) with newer Nvidia cards.

Well, short of reloading the game, I've tried everything everyone has told me even to the point of downloading the nvidia fix that is posted on SpellHold.

I don't know if the game disc is corrupted or what.

I'm going to ask something now that I never thought I would ask. To be very honest, all their lives I've told my kids, don't lie, steal or cheat. So I'm ashamed of myself for even asking this, but I do want to finish this game.

I know there are cheats codes in the game (I've seen folks talk about them in post) Since I'm able to get around in level 1 on Dragon's Eye. Is there a cheat code to get the Heartstone Gem and return to Kuldahar, or even advance to level 3 or 4 and by-pass level 2. Man I can't believe I'm even asking this. :o

Or should I just reload and try again.
How about only loading IWD, finish that then load HOW

Sorry about the rambling, but I just don't know what to do at this point.

Thanks
Sonny :( :(

PS If the cheats code opition will work (I hope there's another way) how do you use them?

Does it happen every time you enter that area? Maybe reinstalling the game can help. It may be that the relevant area file is corrupt. I had it happen to me in BG2 once.

In order to teleport you've to open the "icewind.ini" file in the game directory with an editor and add the line Cheats=1 under the "[Game Options]" section.

After saving you can press [Ctrl] + [Tab] during your next IWD game to open the cheat console.

There you can enter GETYOURCHEATON:MoveToArea(“AR4003”) for teleporting to level 3 and GETYOURCHEATON:MoveToArea(“AR4001”) to get back to level 1.

You'll miss some items and XP if you skip level 2, you can get the most powerful magical items you're supposed to find there with the following codes:

GETYOURCHEATON:CreateItem("U1HAX3B")
GETYOURCHEATON:CreateItem("ULSWD3B")
GETYOURCHEATON:CreateItem("ZZA7CH")

For the XP you miss you can simply try to rest and get interrupted a few times at level 3. A very fast way for gaining XP.

kmonster, thanks for the codes and how to use them. Hope I won't have to for awhile.

Well after sitting at this d*** computer for the past 6 hours, I finally got the game to work (he say's with fingers and toes crossed). Don't know what one thing did it, but here's what I did. After reading all the info I could get from GB, and SpellHold, I just winged it and used a little of each.:mischief:

1. Uninstalled every thing.
2. Reloaded IWD, HOW, TotL and the G3 Tweak Pack.
3. Under the Options screen set the Color Depth to 16. It used to be on 32
In the IWD config did the following;
1. Changed Maximum Frame Rate from 30-27
2. Emptied the Cache folder in the IWD directory
3. Increased the Cache Size.

Now I don't know what if any of these fixed the problem. It may have just been a corrupt file as GawainGS said. Who knows

Anyway I started a new game, went through the first part as fast as possible and I'm now in level 4 of Dragon's eye.

Don't see any big difference in the game. Color is not as sharp, but I'm afraid to change it. :(

Also on the options screen it used to say v1.42 now it says v1.42 (062714)
don't know what that's all about.

Anyway for now it's working, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks everyone for your help and patience.
Sonny :) :)
