Install problems

Ok, so I have played this game before, and never had trouble installing it, I am running XP and the install just freezes during disc one. No error is given. The disc appears to be fine, but it just stops. Once I eject the disc, it tells me that data.cab2 is not ready, but I believe that is just because I ejected the disc. Thanks in advance, hope you all can help me!
(I really want to play again now that I know about all these nifty patches to make your game better)

Could the problem lie with the disc itself? Perhaps it has a few scratches or has had its data corrupted? I've had similar problems with installing other games before because of a deep scratch or a flurry of smaller ones on the disc.
P.S Welcome to GB

Ty, I guess I should have put that in my first post. Unless the data can simply corrupt it should be fine, there are almost no scratches at all on the disc, and none of them are large or deep at all. but it does seem to freeze at the same point each time, which I guess does point towards a corruption issue. If it is corrupted I assume there is no way around it?

Apart from getting a new disc, i don't think so.

You can try CDCheck. It helps to recover corrupt data from discs (CD and DVD).
Hope this helps.

Sweet, I am checking the CD right now, if it doesn't find anything, would it work if I installed it onto another computer, and then transferred the files maybe?

If you can successfully install it, then transferring the files wouldn't be a problem. In fact, you could even install it into an external or portable HD and run it straight from there. I have done so with a couple of games... this included.

So I got the installation to work, but I guess that things would be too easy if it just worked from there.
The game runs fine with one strange error, when I use force speed my computer looks like an acid trip. I guess the blur effect is messed up? Is this fixable, or am I just going to have to deal with it? (This is the only problem my game has, so if it isn't fixable, I just won't use the power.)

Hello everyone. New here.
I'm having the same issue with the acid trip on Force Speed. However I have another minor bug which sometimes happens when a movie is playing, I just see a green blur, I reload a recent save and when it plays a second time it's fine...
In any case this seems too me like a driver issue...If you're using Xp 32bit with an ATI card then we probably have the same problem. I figure different vga drivers will fix it but I never bothered to try it...

I ran this game on an ATI Mobility Radeon x1400, a laptop gpu, and a 32bit xp os without the problems you describe. With stock video drivers, no less (Not because i couldn't be bothered to upgrade, but because ATI has a pretty dismal driver support compared to nVidia)

I've also ran the game on my laptop, with 32-bit XP and what I think is an ATI Mobility Radeon x900. It ran fine on medium settings, didn't have to tweak anything at all.

I had the game a couple of years ago with the same computer and back then I didn't have this problem either, but when I installed it this time this happened, which is what makes me think it's the current driver that causes the trouble (I have 9.3). Earlier ones will probably fix this...
