Hey,
Everybody has been asking what the best character is in BG2, wich one do you think is the worst, wich character would you never take with you? Also explain why.

It probably says more about my playing style than the character, but for me the weakest is Cernd. He's not the one I'm least likely to take with me though, that's Analman, he may be a decent tank and all, but he has the worst personality in the game, even worse than Edwin and Haer'Dalis and that's saying something.

I generally pick characters that I like rather then based on their usefulness or power (since almost everyone can be made into a powerhouse with the right equipment). So, for me, I never use Cernd or Valygar, since they're both incredibly dull. The latter is only useful to bring along if you have Mazzy, and then again, her dialogue is better with other NPCs (like Korgan

).

In my previous playings of BG II I never took Cernd or Mazzy with me, well Cernd sometimes only for a Druid Grove quest.I agree with Nightmare, I choose NPC's by how much I like them, not how powerful they are.

Most useless character is Minsc. All others are more useful.

what is so bad about Edwin?
His necklace is bare useful just for the pure number of spells he can memorize

Presumably that's aimed at me as I seem to be the only one that 's mentioned him.
HE's an [expletive deleted] [expletive deleted] slimeball, just not quite as obnoxious as Anomen. It sums him up when you can only find an article of clothing as justification for his existence.

He also always winds up dead in Nashkel in my games*, so shouldn't even be in Athkatla IMO.
* And that's even when I'm playing evil characters!

I think with this, it definitely depends on preference
Personally, I quite like Edwin, and his "under-the-breath" comments about everybody in the party. I once had a group consisting of Edwin, Korgan, Jan, Mazzie and Haer'Dalis... Probably the most entertaining run-through I've ever done
As to the question itself though, I do have to agree with you on Cernd... *yawn*.... I find him even more grating and boring than Nalia.. and *that* is saying something for me.

Nalia and Aerie also tend to annoy a lot of people because of their *incessant* whining. They're a little more useful than Cernd or Valygar, and they at least HAVE personalities, but they tend to grate a lot of people the wrong way.

Agreed...
My issue with Nalia is her continual "How can we help the less fortunate while trudging around down here?" This is ESPECIALLY true when it happens while liberating HER keep
Also, I rather dislike her patronising "do-gooder" attitude.. In my view Jaheira sums it up pretty well when you first encounter Nalia.
As to Aerie, I find I actually don't mind her too much. Apart from the fact that it's hard to beat the cleric/mage combo, I kind of feel sorry for her.

I don't think any NPC is that useless even if I don't have a use for them. I would go with Cernd though for least used and maby most challanging to be made into a powerhouse. I also use Airie alot so that means I rarely use Haer'Dilas even though he is a very usefull NPC.
Its actually probably an easier game starting out if your evil because you get 3 single classed very powerfull NPC's right away in Korgan, Viconia and Edwin. I remember strugling to utilize characters like Anomen, Airie, Jahiera when I first started playing BGII because I was too narow minded about classes and there uses. I used Anomen as a background Cleric/Healer for example, what a waist.

I tend to take all the NPC's at least long enough to get their quests done. The one I probably use the least is Korgan (as I tend to play good/neutral aligned characters), I usually complete his quest early and then end up stripping Korgan of all his equipment and then dismissing him, before I provoke him into a fight and kill him
![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)
. Cernd I think is probably the most useless and after the Druid grove and other quests related to him I just ditch him. Another character I quite often don't use is Keldorn, I normally let him go back to his family - he is an old man after all.
I like to interchange my party as much as possible to keep things interesting and each time I am always surprised by the things that come up - a testament to how great a game it truly is!

And Korgan is supposed to be the evil one!!! Sounds like you were a perfect match to me.

Jahiera(shifting her into a wolf perfectly sums up my feelings), Annoy-man(Arogant self-rightous "insert insult here")

I've never liked Cernd, he's weak and boring, and he's like the least developed character that can join you in the game. I mean seriously, it really says how little time & effort they put into Cernd because of the bug where he won't leave your party if you poison the druid grove. They remembered to make the others leave your party and attack you if you did stuff like that to them.

If you posion the grove, Cernd leaves the party and attacks immediately.

Enough about Cernd, what about the fighters, wich one of the following characters is the worst/weakest?
Minsc
Valygar
Keldorn
Korgan
Anomen
Mazzy
Wich one would and wouldn't you take with you in a party?

I would say every one of those characters is extrememly effective when used correctly, none of them are weak. I would add Mazzy to that list and say the same thing about her, plus Hear'Dilas is a great tank.

You are correct, I forgot to mention Mazzy, but I still think there are distinct differences between all five fighters, the do have there good and bad skills, I think Minsc is a better tank but would take Valygar if I used the ranger as an archer type person, what do you think about that?

4 of them add very powerful options to the game.
Valgyar can do up to quadruple damage with backstabs.
Keldorn can turn protected enemy mages into helpless victims with his dispel magic.
Korgan can go berserk and get immunities which turn some of the hardest monsters into pieces of cake.
Anomen has both a lot of attack and spellcasting power.
Minsc on the other hand gets an useless berserk which doesn't grant the important immunities but makes him attack his own party members.
