You can't import characters from IWD to IWD2.
IWD2 uses very different rules.

ahhhh... to bad, i had some nice characters:/

anyway, whats the point of exporting characters from ICW if u cant use them in ICW II?

I mean if the point is to start over its kinda gay because to start with characters at high level from the begining is lame, or?

When Bioware were developing IWD & BG 2 they were unaware that Hasboro Games (owners of Wizards of the Coast) were about to abandon AD&D and introduce a completely different game. They were fooled, like a lot of other people, because Hasboro gave the new game the name D&D 3rd Edition, thus implying that it would be a continuation of AD&D and carrying over would be possible.

ive just installed it but i have the same error i had when i played the first game. It keeps getting black sometimes when townspeople talk.

I corrected this error in the first game by using OpenGL 3D accl an the config. But when i open the ICW II config i cant find anything where i can use the OpenGL..

what should i do?

i did try to turn off the Hardware Acceleration: http://www.deskshare.com/Resources/arti ... ation.aspx

but it seems like it doesnt allow me to change it:S

i just downloaded Icewind Dale II NPC Project and installed it. It worked but i have a queston. Is it a must to have that party if u want to run the mod or can u create a own party?

If you don't use the characters from the NPC project, its only "benefits" are much longer loading times and an additional possible source of instability.
The mod has a readme, I recommend reading it.

@Kmonster,
Where the NPC Project is concerned, it actually depends on your computer.
My previous, old machine *did* experience significant slowdowns while running that mod, my new computer does not, however.

Given that the OP is experiencing the black box problem and attempted to turn off hardware acceleration, I'm going to guess that they have a newer computer.

@Illyren,
I would *definitely* recommend reading the "readme" for the NPC Project.

There is a actually a sticky thread at the top of this forum with links on how to deal that issue and others. Though it also depends on your OS... I run XP, Vista may cause more trouble, I'm not sure.

I just turned off hardware acceleration and it was fine...

Yes, I saw your comment earlier, and you asked if I knew how to make the black boxes go away. Turning it off was my solution *shrugs*
I'm guessing that your inability to turn off hardware acceleration is directly related to Vista. I'm not a techie, and I know nothing about Vista, but I did just punch up a quick Google search, these are the results. Hopefully something in there will help you out.
