I think it affects saving throws. And welcome to the forums.

Clerics and druids get bonus spells for high wisdom. It doesn't affect saving throws or anything else of importance, so you can dump it to the minimum.

the manual says that wisdom applies to saving throws against magical attacks that affect the mind.
I think of creating an elf f/m/t and going solo.(racial+wisdom bonus against mind attacks seems nice)

You get neither an elf nor a wisdom bonus to saving throws to mind affecting spells, neither is implemented in the game. Thanks to "Protection from Evil" mind affecting spells are no problem anyway.
For best saving throws take a dwarf or halfling, with 18+ con you get a huge +5 bonus to nearly all saves.
For a solo f/m/t I recommend rolling until you have 18/00 str, maxed dex,con and int. Wis and cha are unimportant.

Don't play HoF mode. Play a normal game first. The game is balanced for it.
