What are you having for Thanksgiving dinner?

This year, none of our relatives will be in town, and my mooching little brother has moved back to Colorado (for some Post-Doc position  ), so it will just be the four of us. My wife, my three-year-old, and my seven-month-old. So we are pretty uninspired to make a real dinner. We thought we might just buy a turkey breast, but we couldn’t find one and opted for the smallest whole turkey we could find. I dread the thought of that carcass in our refrigerator for the next month, as we try to polish off the leftovers.

I normally make a good cornbread and sausage stuffing, but I’m thinking that it might not work so well this year. We might want a stuffing that’s a little more ‘normal’, so that it will be palatable to my little girl. My Mom always used to make a great oyster stuffing, but my wife shudders at the thought.

For the same reason, I won’t be making my usual Jalapeño Jelly Glazed Sweet Potatoes. Other than that, we will probably have the usual mashed potatoes and gravy, pickles, olives, and cranberry sauce.

What are you going to have? (Obviously, this question is only directed at those of you who will be celebrating Thanksgiving….. :D )

Turkey. Broccoli with cheese. Some kind of interesting squash we found, recently. My wife likes cranberry sauce, so that'll be on the table, too.

That's about it. Then I expect we'll lie down like beached whales and wait for the tide to come in... ;)

There are only five necessary foods on Turkey Day: Turkey (of course!), stuffing (prepared in the bird, not with a pot or out of a box), mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy (yes, it's a separate food). Everthing else just takes up space on the table, although I understand the some people need rolls on the side.

Dessert is Grandma's pumpkin pie.

Turkey, Mashed Taters, Stuffing(in the turkey as well as a seperate amount in a pan so we have enough), gravy, and Cherry Pie. I'm not sure what else we'll be having. Dad and I tried to convince mom to make Tamales, but she refuses. :(

I do not come from a family that eats a lot of bread products. However, I married in to one. For me, the only function of bread is to hold butter and to feed ducks. For my wife, it is as necessary for life as air or water. Rolls do not last long at my house, but it's usually one of my relatives eating them.

My mom feels the same way about bread as your wife. My dad's only use for bread is to make a sandwich(though he can make sandwiches without bread, too  ). To me, it depends on the bread. Croissants, Red Lobster's rolls, and Marie Calendar's Cornbread---these are the important ones. :D Except for those three, which I eat because of how great they are, I pretty much only use bread to counter the greasiness of food. My stomach can't handle greasy(even food that isn't very greasy but is somewhat greasy) food any other way.

It's called a sweet dumpling squash, and it's very tasty. We do have stuffing, but it's healthy stuffing: no butter or margarine (we don't even have either item in our house), and we avoid salt. Hell, I'm a chronic severe asthmatic: you thing I need other health problems on top of that? ;) :D

Good point, but it's the holidays! Who cares about health on Holidays. ;) :p

Me no like real butter. I've been raised on margarine and real butter makes me feel nauseated, usually.

No salt!? Salt is needed on Mashed Taters, though salt can be left out if there is at least a ton and a half of pepper on them taters. ;) :D

Sign on a health food store: Eat here and live long.
Sign at a nearby barbeque pit: Eat here and die happy.

@ Saturn: Ah, yes, Texan, muchos apologies, yeah I remember you're Texan, who could forget? You remind me all the time

Amen! And think about it, if you die of heart attack, you don't have to worry about anymore health problems. ;) :D
