Hi. Somewhere on this site, would there happen to be a reference to what schools of magic are barred to which mages? I know a few of them but would like to have a reference to them...

Thanks!

For BG1 2E rules
Abjuration has Alteration and Illusion as opposition schools.
Conjuration has Divination and Invocation.
Divination has Conjuration.
Enchantment has Invocation and Necromancy.
Illusion has Necromancy, Invocation and Abjuration.
Invocation has Enchantment and Conjuration.
Necromancy has Illusion and Enchantment.
Alteration has Abjuration and Necromancy.

The table for opposition schools in the BG2 manual has:

Abjuration - Alteration
Conjuration - Divination
Divination - Conjuration
Enchantment - Invocation/Evocation
Illusion - Necromancy
Invocation/Evocation - Enchantment & Conjuration
Necromancy - Illusion
Alteration - Abjuration

I got that information from here:

I knew Bioware had simplified the system in BG2, hadn't realised they hadn't in BG1.

Most of the time Bioware's incorrect implementation in BG2 annoys me, but this is one area where they definitely got it right and TSR got it ludicrously wrong.

The oppositions layed out in the Player's Handbook are idiotic in the extreme. How can Invocation be opposite Illusion but not Illusion opposite Invocation for instance!

Thanks for the clarification wise grimwald.

I've deleted the content of my first post to avoid confusion with wise grimwald's

BG1 uses the same opposing schools as BG2.

The BG1 manual seems to be wrong.

As far as I can tell, it works like this:

Abjuration ("Abjurer") is opposite of Alteration ("Transmuter")
Conjuration/Summoning ("Conjurer") is opposite of Divination ("Diviner")
Enchantment/Charm ("Enchanter") is opposite of Invocation/Evocation ("Invoker")
Illusion/Phantasm ("Illusionist") is opposite of Necromancy ("Necromancer")

Edit: Oops! This is only true if you use "DudelyFix".
