Taking Up Residence

So I've finished the quest from Ft Moonmoth with killing the Comona Tong in Balmora. I've thought about just setting up residence there at the club and leaving all the stuff I don't want to lag around there... is that possible? Will my stuff vanish or will there be other characters that'll take up residence there? Thanks.

If you leave it lying around, it might slow down the area a bit if there is too much, but it will be safe.

I've had various caves, shacks, and mansions as temporary homes over the years, and left things on the ground without any of it ever vanishing. However, I've heard that the places used for scripted events important to the main plot can't be trusted.

So the So the counsil club in town isn't one of those safe places. My stuff vanished after doing a few side quests and a few Morrowind days passed. So I went back to a the saved game I had before doing those side quests and just tried to sell all the loot I got from their bodies and go on. lol I'll try a cave next time. thanks

That's strange. How much did you put down and did you just put it on the floor or in crates?

I was gonna sell all the loot I took from the dead bodies so I layed all I had on me down on the table, in crates, on the floor, and on the bend when you first come in. I've tested out in the open places I frequent and in Caius Cosades' house. They've worked well. I wish I had my own place, but I guess that happens after joining a house and going through all their missions.

Or, if you're on a PC, you can use house mods. There are literally several hundred different ones available.

The reason I ask is that items shouldn't disappear from open spaces. They may disappear from certain crates but unless you overload the cell items should stay out in the open.

Alas I am an xbox player.... thought about buying the pc version since I've read about how much better it is with all the great mods and such... I just worry about my comp b/c it's kinda old. Very tempted to try it out any way.
I've not had a problem with leaving stuff around since, but I've just tried to store it in safe places that the fore mentioned house or sell it immediately. Like if I raid a shrine I'll kill everyone, pick up as much as possible, mark the area, almsivi intervention out, and recall a time or two and do it over again.

When you leave items in a crate or chest that previously had items in it
Sometimes your items will disappear and random items will be in there
If you leave your items on the floor they will stay forever, The first day on my current character I killed someone in Balmora and dropped all their items, now i'm like level 60+ and every time I walk through Balmora I see the stack of items still there

I don't recall that ever happening in Morrowind, unless it's part of a scripted quest. On the other hand, it happens all the time in Oblivion.

I second fable on that.
Though it might just be that there are very few respawning crates in Morrowind as opposed to Oblivion where they decided to make most crates respawning ones.
