My Poor Horse! (QUEST SPOILER ALERT!)

I've had it with my horse. I'm NOT a big fan of horses, however, after purging the Brotherhood, Lucien gave me his Shadowmare horse, which I rode around a bit, even though my character can run a lot faster. However, whenever I fast-traveled to a wilderness location, there he was with me. I lost him once at Pale Pass trying to find the Ring of Omnipotence, and had to reload a previous save and find the ring again (what a pain, but well worth it!) I rode him to Chorrol from Bruma, passed an oblivion gate, rested (and fed, playing through as a vampire), and fast-traveled to the Oblivion gate, at which point Shadowmare dutifully joined me and subsequently got mauled by some Daedra hanging outside the gate. The status message I got said "Shadowmare is unconscious", so I forged ahead into the gate and closed it. When I came out, the horse was AWOL, and I fast traveled to every city to see if a.) he recovered and b.)if I got the status message that he was waiting for me outside the gates as usual. I even checked the stables. Is the horse gone for good? Like I said, I don't much care for horses, but I'd grown rather fond of him. I don't think he's dead, but I can't find his prone body anywhere near the oblivion gate where he fell. Thoughts?

I would first try looking at fort farragut. If he isnt there then I dont honestly know what to do. I used to use shadowmere as a travelling bank by knocking him unconcious and then placing/removing things. I had roughly 200,000 of items and weapons stored on him and he all of a sudden went AWOL. That was about two months ago and I still havent found him. If I were you I would just cut my losses and move on. If you really need a horse then go and buy another one

Not only does she provide storage services, Shadowmere is also a hardy companion who can draw enemy fire away, should you find yourself overwhelmed.
On to the problem at hand. Assuming you are playing on the PC, there is a console command that will reunite you with Shadowmere, should you fail to find her in Fort Farragut. Use the following code "player.moveto 00032BF5" without the quotes. That should place you wherever your trusty stallion is currently lurking.

I have had horses go missing, usually when they have been badly injured and run away. I have assumed that they died, though I have never found the bodies, nor have they been at the stable I originally bought them from. That console command could be useful. Thanks!
As for fast travelling to dangerous locations, I just don't do it. I fast travel to the nearest stable to the location, take the horse into the gated 'pasture', and leave it there while I run to the location. Saves all the hassle of missing/injured horses.

The command I gave happens to work only with Shadowmere. The base id is unique to her. If you want to locate your other horses, different ids would be needed.

Mm... I'd figured it was just for Shadowmere, though not immediately; only when I re-read your post!
But thanks for making sure I got it right, it was very thoughtful of you.
