I decided to give it a go with a build i never really tried too much: The swashbuckle for tutu. I've narrowed it down to 3 people i wanna get in the party. Imoen, straight from the beginning, will specialize in disarming traps. After she reaches at least lvl 3 or 4 i will dual class her to a mage. She will be a bombadier. This time i thought of bringing along a cleric. Branwen seems a good choice to me, since i am going to be going the good route. Branwen will fill the role of buffer/summoner/ backup fighter. Ajantis will be the main fighter. With the gauntlets of dexterity, he will be a force to be reckoned with. And then there is my swashbuckler who will specialize in detect illusions and stealth which will make him a mage killer. He will be a second fighter as well.

So there it is:

1 fighter
1 bombadier/summoner
1 backup fighter
1 backup fighter/healer/buffer

My only question is will that party be able to take on the game? That is really all i want to know. Keep in mind i dont want anymore than 4 characters total. I appreciate any advice....

With ease IMHO.

It may interest you to know that there are mods available that allows you to have Branwen and Ajantis in BG2 as well you can find links to them here

Don't forget that your Swashbuckler's backstab modifier is x1 and never goes up so yes he can sneak around but he won't be one hit killing things like your standard dueled or multi Fi/Th. He may be your best front line fighter by the time you finish especially if you have ToTSC expansion. Swashies get great combat bonuses, I think of them as fighters who can hand'e your theiving skills without haveing to be a multi or duel class.

Your party will do fine in BG1. Brawen is quite effective in the front lines with the Guantlets of Ogre Power.

Already in chapter 4. Everything is going great as you guys had said. Starting out was a little tough with the kobolds in the mines. I still think that the first main quest (the nashkel mines) is one of the hardest quests for a low level party. Those crazy kobolds tend to get way too many critical hits

Anyway, the swashbuckler is working very well, I haven't had to reload really at all with many of the major fights that usually cause trouble. It's really kind of cool and different at the same time when i attack someone from the shadows; mainly because i don't have to retreat back to my party like the usual thief is forced doing on a regular basis.
