Hi, I am a newbie and I just started the game with an Elf Fighter that has no lock pick skills. I have a hair pin that I put on the hot key bar but it is greyed out and I can't use it to open a chest. Any suggestions?

You need to know the lock picking skill to even attempt to pick open a lock. You'll find a rogue companion in Avestrue eventually, so just keep track of where locked containers are so you can come back to them later.
