noticed something ... i might be slow to notice though..
Confirm:
- Nature healing spells: Healing Wind, and Healing Hands does not increase your Nature magic level? It seems like Melkor and the other 98,800 nature magic guy don't level because their sole purpose is to heal.
- I see it increasing my intelligence.

I just started a mage and Healing Hands does actually let you level, it just seems to move a little slowly. One way I leveled the first few is to get in a big group of creatures and just let them pound you while you keep healing. Do that for a while and you will level soon enough.

It does go up... For some reason it goes up faster when you're better at it.

It goes up faster as you get better at it because you're putting more spell points into it, and using the spell more efficiently.

Using healing is the worst way to level your Nature magic. You are better off using zap, since it cost very low mana, always hit, and will always raise your skill relatively fast. As for war magic, I like to use drain health, as it does very little damage and does not miss. When raising your magic skill the damages you do is not important. What is important is to cast as much spells as possible.
One of the Best way I found to raise my magics (both war and nature) is to summon creatures. When your creature fight it raise your magic skill.

all magic levels on the damage you inflict.
No matter if its nature or combat. If you want to level up nature i suggest you use a combination of pet summons(their dmg go to increaseing your nature magic), damage spells like flash(set a quick key to healing spells so you don't just stand around when no one is injured), and use damage shield type sells like Shock(in order to keep from getting aced when you get close just wait till the tanks have the attention of the enemies then just walk up behind him to get easy dmg).
Doing all three techniques should have you leveling in nature faster than your melee'ers. Don't waste your time do'n just buffs and heals to raise your skill, you do get xp for it, but no where near as great as the bonus you get from doing dmg. In single player games don't be shy about filling a packmule with mana potions to increase your effectiveness and reduce any downtime.

the skill goes up as you use the spells. waiting for it to go up using heal isnt efficient, unless your group is getting the crap beat out of it all the time

. like suggested, use a combat spell, like zap, flash or spark. zap has the better recycle of the three.
remember to switch back and forth tho, or have an alternate healer, because it sucks to have your party die while your healing mage was happily vaping baddies
