So, what do you guys think about it so far? I downloaded it yesterday, went through the tutorial and started building the first region for my mod Asylum. My consensus: pretty damn cool! :)

It is pretty intuitive and has a pretty small learning curve. The only thing I need now is some more team members for my mod to do some concept art and modelling, because I want to get some new nodes for my maps, rather than just working with only the ingame ones. (If anyone wants to join the Asylum team send us an email at ds_asylum@hotmail.com)

I know that many people were complaining that DS was too linear, too boring, etc. Now is your chance to go and make your own mods to make DS do what YOU want... go get yourself the Siege Editor and start creating! :)

I haven't even DL:ed the Siege Editor yet, since I haven't finished the game yet. Is it easy to use the editor even with no programming skills whatsoever?

I hadn't finished the game either; you should go get it, it won't affect your gameplay at all. Programming skills are not necessary at all! If you would just want to make a new map and do some object/character editing, that is quite easy to do using just the tools they give you. However, if you wanted to change the whole game, then programming skills would be required.

Thanks Krynus, I'll better take a look at the editor immediately then :) I was afraid it might spoil the game. I will probably return with more questions later on though!

I personally think that the SE is a great utility, and can't wait for the patch and non-beta version to come out so that we can actually see our creations! :)

Also, I'm looking forward to more Siege University classes and SiegeMax. I went through a bunch of the gmax tuts, but I want to see how to import it all into Dungeon Siege, and have truly unique levels and mods... Kudos to the GPG team! :)

Unfortunately I encountered problems before I even got started - I DLed the CGM tutoral, copied the tutorial map into the DS maps directory, but it doesn't show up on the list. I wonder if this is because I have DS installed on D:, but I can't find where to change the default path where SE is looking.

EDIT: I have looked around at other fora, and found out that lots of people are experiening the same problem, the tutorial map simply doesn't show up. So far I haven't found any suggestions how to solve this other than reinstalling both the game and the editor. *sigh*

One word: BETA :D

If you can at least get the Siege Editor to work, go through the Siege University tutorial, it is VERY helpful. Then once they release the next version, all should be better :)

Microsoft and beta is a combination one should fear :D

The Siege editor works, so I'll try the tutorial and hope a new version will be released very soon!

the siege editor seems to be pretty good. i think the tutorial could be a little more in depth. i finished the small cottage tutorial pretty quick and am raring for more. i have since been building a nice big village. however, i am worrying that much of it will be for naught since i can only apply what i have learned and begun to learn on my own (very slow going). i must say that matching up nodes that are on different horizontal planes is pretty hard. or at least irritating. otherwise, if i could only start playing these mods, i would be pretty happy.

I disagree with you. I think that the tutorials given (the 100 level classes so far) have been pretty easy to follow, and provide a good basis for continuing to experiment with the Siege Editor. After going through the 100 level classes, you get the ability to create a world, furnish it, light it, and populate it. Once the 200 level classes are out, more advanced features will be tutorialized, but I think that with the basic tools we were given, it isn't too difficult to expand...

I also think the tutorial was good, although like Seraphim, I of course want more. However, I do have a job also :D so I can wait ;)

I have so far build a desert camp and a village surrounded by forest. I will try to use the DSMconverter to make my maps playable in DS, I'd like to have a look at them. It's quite difficult to build a large area without having the slightest idea what it will look like, and if the NPC:s are going to work or not.

I have not had any problems with matching up nodes on different horisontal levels since rotating the landscape is so easy. The only thing is that it takes time to go through the nodes to find the right one. Also, a node might look different depending on what node set you use. When I first opened SE, I went looking for these awesome desert bridges, but I only found rock bridges. Then I realised that the bridges will change when you change the "current node set" :)

All this will of course get faster and faster as we make our own custom views and remember what nodes looked how. I must say Krynus was absolutely right - it's very easy to make your own maps and populate them :) At least I think so now when I haven't played my own maps yet and seen all the mistakes! ;)

If you don't already know, a second version of the Siege Editor has been released today!!!!! :)

Though still a beta, many problems were dealt with... and more S.U. courses were put out! Yay! :) :) :)

Get it here!
