In single player, what level should I face him at? I've got a level 28 barbarian right now, and he's kicking my ass. I'm fighting him for a few seconds before I'm dead, and his Lightning Inferno kills me in one hit.
Help.

I'd fight Diablo when you can mow down his minions without too much difficulty.

the late 20s, early 30s are the levels I usually take him on at. basically, if you can romp through the monsters in his area and take down the seal-summoned dudes without getting squished, he should be fine.
btw, lightning inferno is always hellish. when he casts it, I use on (big) health potion, and when it gets low I use a rejuvination potion to keep me alive. regular trips to town and learning to read his movements are the only other strategies you need to learn if you have trouble. just stick at it, and don't be afraid to run away like a big girly girl.
good luck.

What level one can take on Diablo at, differs a lot depending on class and what equipment you have in my experience. I ususally take him on at middle to late 20's, but that is providing I have good fire and lightning resistancy. Max Lightning resistance may help you survive his LI attack. Also, you should make sure that you face Diablo sideways or from behind, because he needs to have his mouth in your direction in order to hit you with the LI. As soon as you see him start breathing out the pink flame, run in a narrow circle sideways and drink a healing potion at the same time.
Good luck!
(Personally, I always find the #@&% Lord de Seis gives me more trouble than Diablo...)

You sure you dont watch me play? Because thats exactly what I do...I mean exactly....
Though I do do more running then swinging
But, yeah, I have great troubles with Diablo, he is the hardest boss in the game, and harder then Baal and his minions. Its just a headache, but through paitence, it will all be over with, and you can continue playing.
Lord De Seis is annoying, but within a couple minutes, and a lot of strategic waiting and luring, he is but a memory.

We must have different playing styles! I never have much problems with Diablo himself, no matter what class I play or what difficulty level - the only problem is that it takes a lot of time for a solo Bowazon or Necro to take him down. Lord De Seis and his pack however, often gives me trouble at Hell difficulty, especially with melee characters since you have to run away from their Iron Maiden all the time. Another Superunique that often gives me trouble at Hell difficulty is Bremm Sparkfist, Mephisto is nothing compared to an MSLE Bremm...

Hahaha....Hell....that explains it, I have never gotten quite that far in the game, I have reached Hell level, but have not had too much success. I am a 1p player, anyway, so that might explain that.
ANYTHING lightning enchanted on Hell level is increadibly difficult...and those Barbarian gods at anything above normal level....damn....damn...thats all I have to say...damn
But on normal and nightmare level for Diablo, the Bonespear works, it take a HELL of a lot of time, but its better then wasting money, rejuv potions, or dying...

Reaching Hell difficulty was, at least for me, something that was most difficult with the first character since one doesn't know what to expect and how to best build your character to suit that level of the game. At the time, I had no idea that life/mana steal, freeze lenght etc were cut, also I didn't know monster were immune to a lot of things! But once I knew that, it was much, much easier with all the following characters.

MSLE:s are the worst at Hell difficulty, and the Ancients (the Barb gods) can be the most difficult battle in the game depending on what Mods they spawn with. Some people cast a TP to make them respawn if they are too difficult!
Then of course we have Nihlatak and his Corpse explosions, at Hell they have a ridiculous range, he can kill you in one shot from 2 screens away. I hate that, it's not even a fun challenge...
Bonespear? I think that's what I did on Normal, I only have one Necro and he is a Golem/Poison nova built, but he didn't have Poison Nova at Normal, so I used a very weak Iron Golem that I had to resummon many times, and a wonderful lvl 1 Bonespear

Aye...how could I forget the poison nova?
Right, my necro is mage-built, and is a lot of fun. I just like walking around and being surrounded I mean SURROUNDED by my own minions
Right now, the only character I have lurking in Hell difficulty is my werewolf druid...he owns
And Nihlatak (God, its even hard to spell) is rediculous on nightmare, alone...Id hate to see him on Hell level...oi, what a headache. One reason why it is extremely helpful to have your own corpse explosion, so that you use the corpses, and not him, or have a kill-off minion to take the hit of the corpse explosion

probably one of the best areas for ice magic and skeleton summoning. no corpses
or you could just blow them up first as a necromancer...
oh, and diablo isn't all that hard. he's just a glorified seal guardian thingy. one of the hardest challenges IMO was the dude guarding the place where you smash the soulstone. diablo may be hard and powerful, but not as much as you might have expected, just get tooled up and prepare to do a lot of potion quaffing.

Oh, you mean Hephesto...he was hard the first time around on normal and nightmare level, but you just got to get into rhythm.
And youre right, he was easier then I thought the first time I saw Diablo.

Yes, that's exactly what I did with my Necro...with my Barb I ran around at Find Itemed the corpses as fast as I could. Even if one does not attack any monsters but head straight for Nihlatak, he always spawns some of those minions that blow up themselves and become suitable corpses for his Corpse exposion anyway...
I
so look forward to the new v 1.10 mod RIP, which makes all corpses RIP, ie they can't be exploded!

But I suppose it will be very difficult to find items with this new mod...

HELLO THERE!
Nightmare, if you help me in TORMENT - file editing, i will help you in diablo, as i can...
Barblvl 28 in 1.10? if yes, and you have money, then buy hireling, from act3 or act2. Act3 hireling (cold) is only useful if you play in 1 player. If you want to use act2 hireling, then buy him a pike, and dont let him die. I think hirelings are buggy, and he nearly always hit diablo
I suggest act2 hireling, with defiance, its very useful, in hell so far...
And get lightning, and fire resist items... if you can use doubleswing-frenzy or leap attack with hit-and-run tactics then attack with those...

I remembered when I first met Nilathak. The entire party absolutely hated my Death Sentries ... Until they blew up all the corpses automatically, long before Nilathak had a chance to. Then everyone loved my Death Sentries...

Hmm
Well...
What lvl i usually kill diablo on, is different from char to char...
But a barb should do it before lvl 30, IMO...
i usually just equip all fire and lightning res items, and ll, thats important!
But also, if u use a shield, that will help on the pink lightning, as it is half physical dmg...
But as said before by the others, good luck!

I have to admit i fought im in a panzy way. I started at level 26 i think. I was playing a druid so i would go into a werewolf form and i will have my henchmen go attack him while i stood by a portal and run through when he is almost dead or when he is dead because im sure not going to up adn start beating him.

if you dont mind starting over you could start over, take every rejuv pot and make the full rejuvs with the cube thingy and fight diablo with that as long as he doesnt hit you with lightning ur gonna be good to go

Your best bet is just to train for awhile before you fight him. That's all, if you can't beat him train on the River Of Flame, or train in Diablo's lair for awhile. Training is definitely the best for you to do if your not strong enough as it is. As for what level, 30 or so I find is good enough to throw Diablo around like a rag doll on Normal, at least my Barb and Paladin did anyways. As for Nightmare, he's harder but not unbeatable, and for Hell...

he drove me up the wall!
