for a weapon you have to have a wand... nothing else is really worth it with a nec IMO. As for armour a smoke is always nice or even stealth at low levels...

A necro does not want an armour that is too heavy since we will invest his statpoints in mana and not have more strenght than necessary. Also, he should not be hit since he is not in melee combat, so good armours for the necro is light armours like for instance mage plates. Early in the game, you can look for light armors with sockets and build the runewords Stealth and later on Smoke as Garaz suggests. Smoke is nice also for middle level chars. You can also look for unique armours with +skills, for instance Skin of the Vipermagi.

Later in the game when your necro reach high level, you can start looking for the special Necro set Trang Oul's set. It has very nice +skills and other bonuses, and wearing the full set will make you look like a Bloodlord vampire :D

As Garaz says, your weapon should be a wand with +skills. If you are Poison and Bone necro, the runeword White is very good, if you are Summoning and/or curse necro, simply look for wands with skills that you use!

first you have to get the right runes (See battle.net) and then you have to find an item with the correct amount of sockets for your runeword. Then you insert them in the GIVEN order, any other order on an Ancient's Pledge than RalortTal will not form a rune word.

ive just recently bought D2 and i have to say im impressed with it... to tell the truth i havent left it alone for a single day and have had hardly any sleep because i play it so much.....

i have noticed that its become a lot more complex with all the items.. at the moment im doing in the cow king and all other cows on the secret cow level.. HAHA you have to use your speakers for that level, its hillarious....

i do have a main Question though.. how and when do you get these so called legndary RUNES and what do i do with them, WHO? do i see to use them OR what do i use to MAKE them????????
im only just starting nightmare, (dying lots) the exp is good though, and soon ill be a lot higher level to deal with these pesky critters.

also i dont hav LOD, will that affect my rune finding at all??????

if anyone can help then id really appreciate it... thanks

Hello Danthe, and welcome to the D2 addiction :D

Unfortunately, you must have LoD in order to find any runes. Runes were introduced with LoD, and since then, many new Runewords have been included in the game.

A rune is an item that you can find anywhere, which looks like a little runestone. It takes up 1 spot in your inventory, and just like gems, you can put the rune in socketed items. There are special items called Runewords, which are items that you create by putting certain runes in a certain order in a socketed item. Many of the runewords are among the best items in the entire game, and they are also fun because they grant you skills that you can not get otherwise.

You must however get LoD, then connect to Battlenet to get the latest patch.

In classic D2, the most powerful items are often what people refer to as "rare" items. To quote bnet's website;
Rare Items - Some magic items radiate energy beyond that of a simple enchanted item. Although much less common, these rare items are significantly more powerful than standard magically enhanced items. A Rare item is distinguished by a yellow title when highlighted. Rare items contain two to six magic properties and are highly valued by those that have them. The names of rare items are not linked to their magical attributes.

The reason for rare items being valued so much more than most uniques is that exceptional items can be rare. Items such as the previously mentioned mage plate, grim helm, executioner sword, and lance. In classic D2, only normal items could spawn as uniques, but this all changes with LoD, where exceptionals can spawn as uniques and a third item class called elites was introduced. Before I go and confuse you anymore, I would follow garazdawi's suggestion and read up on this stuff at battle.net's site.

You could just simply download Jamella editor and get set items that are for necro's only. They rule. Most of them are in the game and what not.

I would not recommend anyone to use cheats such as the Jamella editor. What's the fun of the game if you don't play it, but instead just spawn all items you want?
Also, you cannot play on Bnet with edited characters, you can only play locally or at Open Battlenet where everybody else play edited characters with +1000 to skills and fake items.

Well you see all of the items on jamella are in the game. They are all completly random and what not. :D
