About how much AR would be needed to have a reasonable chance of hitting a 70K+ defence character? Is there some place that I can find the to hit calculation?

WOW 70K defense?!?!?! What sort of cheats are youu using mate!!!!!
There are loads of character calculators knocking about on the net just do a search but.......why cheat?!?!

Trust me, I'm not cheating. It's called a godly Zealot with Maxed Defiance & Holy Shield, plus eth stone sacred armour and eth exile. I sacrificed my damage to get this (I've only got some 6K).

70k is quite steep indeed... maybe try an elemental attack or an auto hit skill?

Right now I'm living off OW plus Widowmaker, but I would prefer to actually hit with my whirlwind.
I finally found the formula

!
Chance to Hit: 100 * AR / (AR + DR) * 2 * alvl / (alvl + dlvl)
But what does DR mean? Damage reduction?

Yeah DR =Damage reduction but it looks like that should be Defence Rating cuz Damage Reduction shouldn't be apart of "to hit" calc.

70 000 armour class?!? Wow that's something I want to try. A question though does that kind of armour make a difference against monsters in hell mode or act bosses?

For PvM 70K Def is not that neccesary. It does make a difference as many creatures I have come across have 6 or higher chance of hit (or was that my smiter?). But I still find myself dying to ranged attacks alot, though this is with pvp gear (put on t'gods, hotspurs and a ravenforst or two and you should be fine since my build has 75 res all). Against melee with 70K def, 75% block and 50% DR it's not really a problem.

You could also try an attack that ignores the target's defense, something like smite.

I greatly dislike smite, I usually bring in my bowazon to deal with it now, more fair

I've been looking for the God Zealot build myself to try out is there a link I can look at?

This build is really quite basic, the normal Zealot build, but instead of maxing Blessed Aim as some guides might advise, you max Defiance (for the Holy Shield synergy). The equipment however is extremely expensive, even on non-ladder. For most people this would be completely impossible (except on open

), costing hundreds upon hundreds of non-ladder high runes/32020's. But here's the ideal equip (I don't have this unfortunately):
Perfect Glitched Eth 15% superior Stone Sacred Armour (AFAIK does not exist).
60% ed/120+ AR Perfect Eth 15% superior Exlie Vortex Shield (REALLY expensive (this is from a person with lots of HotO's)).
Those two are the main items.
Also extremely expensive are:
x10 Combat Grand Charms (w/ hp/hit recovery)
Perfect Annihilus

.
The other charms are made up of x9 32020's.
For boots I use eth sandstorm treks, sometimes switching to Soul Shanks etc.
Steelrend's for gloves (there's probably a better option somewhere (e.g. dual-leech rares))
15% Verdungo's for belt.
Perfect BerBer Crown of Ages. That will give max DR.
BotD Zerker.
Angelics.
On switch CtA/Lidless.
Prebuff:
HoZ & +3 Combat & Holy Shield scepter.
Demonlimb
Of course this equip can be improved, but this is rather good too

.
