Well, I'm sure it's been compared hundreds of times.

I've always been a Diablo II fanboy, the game is like crack.

Year after year I start playing again, and eventually get tired of it only to come back a under a year later.

All the reviews and my personal experience ( I have completed the game on Mercenary) tell me that Diablo II was a very heavy influence on the developpers of DS2.

But can it give you the same feeling? Doing runs for items in Diablo II is a RUSH you can easily catch yourself saying things like "Only one more run, then I need some sleep!", and end up playing for another hour.

The items and gameplay style are the highlights of Diablo II for me, it's fast paced and the items are truly unique (In their stats anyway).

The graphics are dated and the game is ancient and I believe it is finally time I let it go for the last time.

My question is really wether DS2 can satisfy my Diablo cravings. Wether it really has interesting and unique items near the end (where Diablo's items really shine).

I've been searching far and wide for a trainer so I could mess around with all the characters and see how different styles shape up. (And so I could see all the nature/combat spells to see if those change at all from the ones you get 1-45, since none were really unique from each other. Just a different element.) I also wanted to take a glimpse at some of the ultimate items.

Does Dungeon Siege II shape up to take over Diablo II's place on my hard drive?

By the way, I'm speaking exclsuively about Gamespy multiplayer which I assume ot be the equivalent of Diablo II Closed realms.

Thanks in advance for your opinions/information.

I cant really tell if you should install DS2 or not, if it can replace D2 or not
in your case since everyone has diffrent opinions and tastes in games.
From my point of view, GpG has really succeeded in this game making it
better then DS1 in all areas. It feels like i´ve sat for hour & hours
playing DS2 and i´ve yet to leave for the final chapter.

The bosses are way harder then DS1 and diablo2, i really like the new
skillsystem and that you cannot get überelite in all other areas -
atleast i think not.

In DS1 with hard work you could get a char with lvl150 in
combat, melee, nature and ranged, i dont know if that is able here.
If it is or isnt - i dont care tbh.

So to conclude this and finish my yappin. IF you liked DS1 and D2
and you´re the kind of player that likes hack´n slash PRGs with a
twitch of riddles and exciting Bosses , then i´d say yes - give DS2
a shot , my guess is that you´d like it.

I sure am, and i played D2 for several years Hardcore.

Dungeon Siege 2 vs. Diablo 2

I can't honestly comment on Dungeon Siege 2 multiplayer, but I have played the demo so I'll put in my comments. Since this game is a new release, it may be better to give multiplayer a try. If your idea of fun is to be "out of your element" from time to time, then multiplayer is for you. There will be people who will be learning along the way, so if this appeals to you then go for it.

From a single player perspective, I believe the skill system could be better. There are useful skills, but not much to put points into before you start getting low returns on investment. For melee or ranged characters, they will probably invest some skill into nature magic for healing. I also think the story could be much better but I'm judging from the demo, so maybe the game gets better after the demo part's end.

In my opinion, gameplay and story are important to the success or failure of a title. The standout titles draw you into the story somehow. The Dungeon Siege 2 demo failed to do that for me. Since you finished the game already on the first difficulty level, I'm guessing you liked it a lot. You may want to try the next difficulty level in single player to get an idea of whether item runs would be addictive or not. If Dungeon Siege 2 has a heavy inspiration from Diablo 2, then it's quite possible the middle to high difficulties will require item runs in areas.
