Spoiler needed Rescue and Protect

Post by Calidorn »

Does anyone know what you need to do to rescue this old guy in the driad colony. I know it says that you need to protect him from the mad and random attacks from some other creatures but I've gone right up past his camp into the caves there and come back down again. The way I need to go is blocked by some fallen logs. All I can get out of the old guy is 'Help me young one'
There's no-one else about and nothing more I can do in the area.

Anyone got any ideas?

Big nasty bug.
You can try using your backup savegame (this with .bak extension). If that won't help, that you're game is messed up and you can move to multiplayer (if you are playing SP now) or sit and wait for a patch

Thanks Hegi, thought it was strange. Guess the patch won't be around yet. Noticed one for the multi-player but that doesn't affect the game play tho.

There is an unofficial work around posted at http://garage.gaspowered.com/ you may want to try that. I'm not sure if it works in both multiplayer or not. To avoid the bug let the guy get hit several times until he casts heal and dont interupt the cutscenes. There are several other similar bugs in the game, where skiping cutscenes makes it so a NPC won't advance dialog or move to the next area.

Hi Dace
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I have now become the victim of the' D3D initialisation failed ' club. so guess I won't be playing for awhile. Apparently this D3D thing is pointing towards you not having the correct graphic card etc. Found on microsoft site that it could possibly be that my, and I quote 'Direct x
may of expired'
I already have the correct directx 9c from the cd itself, and also previous applications of other programs which rely on this to work.

We need a patch now !!
