Question about melee skill

Hello guys. I have a question about one melee skill named alacrity. It says that it speeds up your atacks but I don't know if it is only for dual wielders or even for 1h or 2h characters. I have a 2h focused char and this skill seems to me as a great help for everyone who uses 2h weapons as they are quite slow so I think about spending at least 10 point in it. I know that in the description is nothing about clas restrictions but I want to be sure.

It's for all kinds of melee weapon, but not including knuckles(sigh....)
I put 13 points in alacrity and 4 points additional from equipment, I use 2h-weapon and it swings like normal atk speed.

Thank you! Now I can spend those saved skill points
But still I have a bad feeling about this character. When I saw the set and uniques list, I think that a dual wielders have far more better equipment than 2h and 1h characters. I don't know if those lists are complete but it seems to me like the developers are in favor for dual wield. Even skills and powers are better (in my opinion). I know this because my first char was a dual wielder and damage bonus from Dual wield skill is better and powers are realy powerfull but I've played only on mercenary difficulty so maybe it's only my feeling. But that thing with damage bonus is true. 20 points in dual wield gives 70% to damage but 20 points in overbear gives only 50% and base damage of 1h weapons is often better than damge from 2h. Just look at the list of uniques and sets and you will see what I mean.
Edit: And sorry for my english. I'm not from a english speeking country.

I was wondering the same thing, but never put any points in alacrity since I thought it was specific for dual-wielders. Thanks for the advice!

2h-weapons are not really that bad, those have "smite" that duel-whiels don't have. Now my 2h char can do 400 damage in normal and 2000 more in critical hit(with skill "deadly strike" and Taar's "Warth of Bear"), 60% critical and 50% smite.
I'm not from an english country either, I'm from Taiwan

Everyone says dual or shield users are better than 2h wpn user, but i got lvl 91 2h wpn user and my dmg is like 500-1000. skills: alarcity lvl 20, deadly strike lvl 20, smite lvl 14, overbear lvl 20.(and some other skills)
meaby shield user doesnt take any dmg, meaby duelist does dmg so fast, BUT 2h wpn user does very much dmg and dmg like my and +10% health steal(my is 18%) does your char almost invinsible.
and those powers... dual wielder powers truly are better than 2h wpns. staggering blow does are dmg but dual wielders first power(cant remember) does also area dmg. elemental rage is also way "too good". i got only 1 point in dual wield and my char does over 2k dmg a hit when using elemental rage
btw: how much you have done dmg with one hit? i have done a bit over 60k
(just wanted to ask)

500-1000 is seriously weak dude, my 71 dual wielder does with the furious tempest blades about as much, but there are way better blades out there(i just keep em 4 the good looks - the katana especially)
which weapon r u using?
cheers

wanna know how much i can do dmg with two wpns? my dual wield is lvl 1. with Citaa and Lunaa blades, my hero's dmg is something like 1000-2300. and those swords arent very good.. i think so you know them, if you have done that assassin quest. it is true that duelist is a bit overpowered, but 2h wpn user is very good too
when i use warcry, my critical hits does something like 2500dmg
and about that elemental rage, i know it does VERY much dmg but it doesnt recharge so fast. even my char does about 4k dmg with one hit. but when im using warcry, i can use brutal strike after 3 hits, and so on.

Listed weapon damage is not everything. This game is very well balanced: A melee fighter is supposed to do more damage on paper - that's because a ranged fighter kills mobs faster on average. In fact, a dual-wielder melee fighter does highest listed weapon damage.
But my question is: on average, can a dual wielder kill bosses/mobs truly faster than all other weapon users?
I don't think so. The thrown weapon does the least damage on paper, and as we all know, this game is not allowed to treat the 1-hand thrown weapons as 1h weapons. At level 75, my little dryad thrower did only a little better than 150-300 listed damage, as compared to your 1xxx-2xxx. But, it's enjoyable to see huge guys (compared to the tiny size of a dryad) blasted before her under just 1 throw. If this game had something like "double throw" as you find in Diablo II, a thrower with the least damaging weapon could easily become godly powered.

Yes, i know that my hero doesnt do that 1000-2300dmg a hit, because its dual wield dmg. but with that dual wield dmg, it means something like 600-700dmg a hit. i heard much about that dual wielder is too good, so i wanted to make something else. So i decided to make 2h-wpn user. Well it works well, critical hits does 3k dmg sometimes, and attack speed is good. When im using my main 2h-weapon my dmg is 500-1200. I just can't find any good weapons anymore...
now im using rare Storming hero's sword of mutilation: base dmg 109-257 +24-70 lightning dmg, +45max dmg, and some other small bonuses.

Man, looking at all the prefixes and suffixes, I wonder if anyone has found an Excruciating <insert weapon here> of Torture yet? +54% melee damage, and +72 max damage. I wish you could build your own somehow.

In what order would those pre- and suffixes be applied? Ideally, you'd want the +72 max damage before the +54% damage...

dual-wielding
Dual-wielding is the most powerful way of killing in a 1:1 situation. But users of two-handed weapons can do more damage with some combat arts. Swinging a large two-handed sword around in a circle is quite rewarding. What makes two-handed weapons all worthwhile is the art of killing many opponents in sometimes just one strike. The attack speed also does not seem to be exactly half the speed of dual-wielders or for that matter users of shields ...
However, I feel another great disadvantage when comparing the different melee skills: dual-wielders can have two custom-made weapons ... I already applied this in Diablo2 and it seems to get DS2 out of balance, too.
I.e. when the shop offers '24-40' hammers, you buy two and stuff 8 pieces of mithril into each you'll end up with hammers doing '64-80' damage each (with magical damage you can get this over 100). Even the two unique swords of the assasin do not get you anywhere near to that. You will need to collect mithril first but that is not really a problem. You spend more time walking away from corpses to your next opponent than for killing them ...
I started DS2 with a dual-wielding knight but sometimes I simply need something different. My favourite is the knife/axe thrower right now. I wish I could wield two knifes for throwing but then I would want to buy machine guns too (or a 'BFG' like some of the monsters have). - Does two-handed melee somehow add to throwing which is two-handed, too?
