A few DS2 questions

I had three DS2 questions:
1.
When you have people in youre party, do you share EXP, or do you each get EXP?? What I mean is if I played the game solo, would I end up higher level then if I had annyone, even one person in my party?? Meaning when you make EXP from damageing a creature, do I share it with my party, or do we all make that EXP??
EX: You kill a monster, and get 300EXP. When you do that alone you get 300EXP, if you where in a team of three, would you each get 100EXP?? Or 300EXP??
2.
When you have an ally in youre party, one you have hired and all that goodness. When you go to a higher difficuly rateing and dont disband them(Yes I know there are problems with this) and go through the game and meet them agian, because they cannot join youre party, can you still do their quests fluently??
3.
Are there any really good, or even very many Katana's in DS2??(I'm kinda' a Katana freak)

1. Because of the way you gain experience, you'll always be roughly the same level as the enemies you're fighting, and so it doesn't matter how many people are in your party.
2. Yes. For every companion side quest, the companion just needs to be in your party.
3. I can't think of any katanas off hand, but then I didn't really look for them.

Actually, no. The OP is right, exp gets divided among non-pet party members. This means that a single character with all pets will be freakishly high level. (seeing as how my 4 characters/2 pets party is consistently 4 levels higher than the opposition)
2. yes
3. Meh. There's a ho-hum unique one that's worse than bloodletter, but you could always get lucky with a rare one

My understanding is that you barely get any experience for enemies who are five levels or more away from you, and so your party will always be within five levels of the highest level enemy that you've faced. If people have become "freakishly" high level, then I'd be curious to see some examples.

Katanas
So far the best katana found was BOREAL KATANA OF PROMINANCE, Damage 71 to 119, Requires Melee 74, Adds 27 to 45 Ice Damage +56 Strength.

About the XP question, I 100% confirm what SWC said.
There is no way to power level a character in this game.
If you play solo, as I did the first time, you will just get frustated because you get good stuff you cannot equip.
The only thing to justify a solo party would be the challenge, but to be honnest, this game is so easy, that the challenge is pretty low (assuming you know to pause the game).

from papagamer's faq:
Code: Select all
For mobs that are more than four (4) levels above or below a character,
earned experience is reduced by 20% per level to a minimum of 5% XP. For
example, if a character is level 15 fighting a level 10 or level 20 mob, the
character will receive only 80% XP; 60% XP for a level 9 or level 21 mob; 40%
XP for a level 8 or level 22 mob; 20% XP for a level 7 or level 23 mob and 5%
XP for mobs level 6 and under or level 24 and over.
But one thing I found, if you want to multi class and the class that you want to gain levels in is 30 (or so) levels less than the current mobs, then even 5% of a very high level monster is still quite a bit of experience. In elite, I was getting some melee skills on all my players so that I could sink some points in fortitude and reinforced armor. Killing one level 70 monster made me instantly a level 4 melee ( I was at 0 ). I got up to level 24 or so in absolutely no time.
If you do want to multi-class a little tho, make sure you buy 0-level weapons/spells before moving onto a higher difficuclty, since you can't buy them in vet or elite.

"There is no way to power level a character in this game."
- there is a way. my level 3 dummy char "followed" my solo sorceress to the elite level. if I can find a player willing to play that level 3 char, my solo sorceress can power-level her up on Elite. My level 3 dummy got to lvl 6 after my sorc killed some Haku for her.
- another way: my level 6 dummy char hired level 64 Elite Lothar and went back to act1 on Merc. Loather power-leveled up my dummy char to level 15. Ah, what a breeze!
"you barely get any experience for enemies who are five levels or more away from you, and so your party will always be within five levels of the highest level enemy that you've faced. If people have become "freakishly" high level, then I'd be curious to see some examples."
- I agree, surely. Just want to add a comment: In MP mode, if you have 2+ players not playing with you, you get more xp faster than in SP mode. My solo char in the mP game having 2 players (2x parties) got to level 89.4 after beating Valdis. If I play the game for another 30 hours with this char on Elite by repeated doing the final "climb", she probably can get to level 100, or at least close.
"If you do want to multi-class a little tho, make sure you buy 0-level weapons/spells before moving onto a higher difficuclty, since you can't buy them in vet or elite."
- Actually, chances are, you can always (or almost always) find 1 melee + 1 ranged level 0 (zero!) weapon in the Temple of Xenia(sp?). I saw them on Elite always.

XPs
Experience points are overvalued in almost any RPG. Playing the game solo you will soon be above all your opponents level but you do not advance faster when playing solo. You advance fast in the beginning but then would have to skip more and more areas because the amount of XPs needed for the next level is simply not out there. You would then be missing a lot of item drops and I believe one rather sees more items being dropped than having a level higher than anyone else.
For the creator of this thread: The manual is not very clear about experience points. Only when it speaks about pets it tells you that there is a difference in how they advance but no word about how the points are being shared otherwise. I assume they are being devided equally since my leading character advances just as fast as the other party members.
If you play the game in a large party or solo is a matter of taste. Sometimes I play solo (but together with a wolf) and sometimes in a party. Solo is good for exploring the game but a party is more fun when you are past this stage. Then the multiple inventories start to pay off
