Sequel or Prequel?

This has been popping up more and more, so I think that it is time to gather our thoughts and see where people stand. Do you think that the next KotOR should be a sequel...

or a prequel?

And please state why. :)

I'm leaning towards sequel though I don't think it should be as closely linked to the predecessor game as KOTOR II was. Perhaps an overview of events that happened as a result of a couple of the actions in KOTOR I & II, but mostly new stuff. New planets and much more new content, even if the basic game structure is similar (it seemed to work pretty well to me :) ).

If it was closely linked to predecessors, I think it would end up similar to KOTOR II with a character asking if you took this or that route previously, and that just ruins any chance of independence. Escpecially considering that taking either route in KOTOR makes no large difference on the galaxy of KOTOR II.

sequel!

i voted sequel 'cause there's still a lot to be explained in the game. what happened to revan and the exile, what is the true sith threat, where's the hk factory, etc...

if it werent for the major things, i wouldve voted prequel. it would be kinda neat to fight in the mandalorian war, though.

I had to go sequel as well. The ending for Kotor II was clearly set up for a sequel (not unlike the ending to The Empire Strikes Back now that I think of it). If the next game isn't a concluding sequel I'll be rather annoyed. After this storyline is finished they can go to an entirely different part of Starwars history and play, but for now they just need to finish the story they've started.

Sequel because I have to know what happened to everyone! But then after 3 . . . never again. Not unless 3 breaks all my expectations and is awsome then no I wont buy 4.

i had to go with sequel they could do it like the sith threat that revan left to watch out for came back but you can choose your starting side (sith or republic) and work your way up to command a fleet and end up dark lord of the sith ruler of the galaxy or savior of the republic they could do a prequel strategy game where you are revan fighting in the mandalorian wars but not in kotor 3

I wouldnt mind seeing a prequel at some point, seeing as both the games so far have stemmed form the mandalorian wars i tink we should go back and have a hands on history lesson, or maybe we go back far enough to jolee's old adventures, although that could be a different game/spin off series.

The next installment should definitely be a sequel. The second game definitely felt like a "middle" chapter in an epic. It seemed to set things up for a chapter that would resolve questions about the true Sith and Revan.

However, I wouldn't mind a future installment of KoTOR being a sort of prequel or, even, only being remotely related to the other installments of the game.

Sequel, deffinately

There are things that still need to be revealed, and I don't think the designers would pass up a chance to link everything so directly... and if is is a sequel they will end up with another trilogy, in true Star Wars fashion

And I kind of agree with Monstross. I think you should start of neutral, similar to the first two, and you choose you alleigance in-game. I would like to be able to actually PLAY as a Sith, as you are always raiding the station or whatever, defeat the last boss THEN you become a Sith... I want the Dark Lord bossing me around or whatever... much more interesting... then I kill him and all the Jedi... very evil, very fluffily-accurate and very, very cool...

My two credits *Votes at poll*

I'll vote pre. becuase....

A) To go against the majority.

B)The ending will remain the same I'm sure...Revan and the Exile die.

C)I Love Nothing more than whipping out vast armies off (Insert army here).I'd LOVE nothing more than to go back into the mandalorian wars and initiate my assasination protocals.

And yes I Know what some people are thinking...Go play an action RPG...My reply is No :D .

Unessecary addendum:The Dark side shall always prevail Master.

As fun as it might be fighting in the Mandolorian Wars, or even all the way back to Exar Kun (with his sweet arse pronged sabers), I would kinda like to know what happened to the exile and/or Revan, just because there were alot of unresolved issues in KOTOR 2 that kinda leave you hangin', so to speak.

i voted sequal...they left us not knowing what happened to Revan and what happens to the exile..they set it up for a Sequal so if there ever is a KotOR 3 it will be a sequal...altho some1 mentioned above it wouldve been cool to fight in the mandalorian wars

Not much left to say for me, is there?

I concur.

A prequel would be nice, very very nice, and goodness knows I'd enjoy going through the Mandalorian wars (with Revan, of course), and that Jolee idea sounds very tempting, too.

Still, a sequel would be more needed. Although I haven't finished KotOR II yet, from what I've heard in this thread I guess I won't be getting any answers to Revan's fate (or, indeed, the Exile's). A proper ending's probably more important than a proper beginning, and besides, a prequel would ruin our perfect little stories we've dreamed up about Revan and/or whoever it is anyone dreamed up anything about.

Erm. In any case...

How great would it be if we got both? :D Now you're just being greedy, missy.

BTW, I still voted 'Prequel', just for the sake of it. All hail the underdog!

Sequel definatly. You need to find out about what happens to Revan the exile. You also need to discover important things like Is HK really mad, what happened to all the other heroes from Kotor1 and Kotor 2, and finally discover where the secret headquaters of obsidian are, and ask the writer of Kotor 2, why he/she sent Revan away when he/she rocked!!! :D

Amen to that! I'm playing KotOR II now, and I really miss Revan. I pounce at every opportunity to discuss her/him, anywhere, anytime, with anyone.

And I guess a fair few people would jump off a roof to get Revan in KotOR III.

So, yeah, I'm convinced. A sequel.

I'm in the minority obviously, but I would enjoy a prequel next. Or maybe even a completely different game series is what I want. I am Sith fascinated and was left reeling about this distant galaxy where the Sith still reside waiting to return someday. A whole new galaxy of Sith Lords and Masters!!! The possibilities are endless. Galactic domination, forming a new Sith order through force and tyranny, embarking on a quest for ancient hidden Sith knowledge. So perhaps the posts I've read have persuaded me that a sequel to wrap up the Exile's story is necessary, but the thought of studying under a Sith master until becoming powerful enough to strike him/her down is more original. Endless battles between those empowered by the force rather than a force master romping a "normy" is far more intriuging to me. Besides the force is all about balance and with only half the story how can we have balance.

Sequel,
the next one has to be a sequel because the second one had to much of an open ending and to go back instead of forward would be pretty stupid because right after i beat it i was dissipointed but then i thought it was a good thing because the next one could be really good.
