Weapon dmg vs. Displayed dmg

Howdy.
Recently I've been experimenting with different types of weapons to try and figure out how the damage displayed in your character sheet is obtained. I still can't make perfect sense of it. Recently I changed from a rare gladius of some sort that was 67-103 to a unique sword that was 53-157 or so. I expected the max damage to jump a lot, and the minimum to decrease just a little. What I got was the max jumping about 100, but the minimum decreasing about 50. I thought about it for awhile and now think that elemental damage isn't displayed on the min/max damage part of the character sheet, but that +max/+min/+% is. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this subject? I don't want to be losing damage do to a display oversight if I can avoid it.

It's probably because you have ranks in a skill that increases the damage of certain weapons.

Well, yes, I have dual-wield maxxed out for the +70% bonus. But does that mean that it gives a bonus to "base" damage and not to elemental damage? That distinction seems to lie at the heart of this matter. From what I can tell, these two weapons will have different displayed damages:
Sword A
50-100
+15-45 lightning damage
and
Sword B
50-100
+15 min damage
+45 max damage
To me it seems they should be exactly the same in the amount of damage they display, but it differs. I'm trying to understand why, exactly, that is.

its because sword a has elemental damage that isnt displayed in the weapon damage itself but comes extra
and sword B is 50 - 100 but the 15min and 45 max are already in this sword was a 35-55 weapon damage basic.

I think elemental damage is is included in the displayed weapon damage. I'm also pretty sure that all physical damage with a weapon is multiplied by the dual wielding bonus, but that elemental damage is just tacked on at the end. If you really want to see which weapons are best for your dual wielder, you should check the damage entry on the character screen.

That is pretty much what I am looking for: official word that the damage entry on the character screen is the correct, adjusted damage, taking all factors (and all types of damage) into account.
On that note, does that make dual-Bloodletters the best dual-wield setup in the game? Or do some rares get better than that?

Theoretically, some rares could get better (legendary katana with all +damage mods will probably beat it), but those are harder to come by

ok work this.. two 1 hand items both same attack speed one a mace one a sword this is on a level 55ish DWing character.
Character reported DPS - 1230
Weapon 1 Stats
Damage 56-83
+ some other stats
+ power recharge..
(Not no +str or +min/max dmg.)
Character reported DPS - 1120
Weapon 2 Stats
Damage 57-103
+ 15 lightning damage
+ 23 Ice/cold dmg.
I can't work out why the 2nd weapon doesn't give me greater DPS. The dmg numbers on the sword are not blue so I know there is nothing being added to it.. very weird. Higher dmg with + elemental but still lower DPS...

I played around with the numbers, but I couldn't get it to work out. Even if you figure that the 38 points of elemental damage is included in the shown damage of the second weapon (giving it 19-65 base damage), I don't see how the first weapon could be over 100 points better than the second.
If one or both of the weapons is a unique or set item, then it's possible there's a typo. Also, I'm sort of curious what happens if you equip these weapons alone (I think the bonus on one weapon can apply to the other weapon, but in this case that would favor the second weapon).
